Slava Malamud @SlavaMalamud
Marge Taylor-Greene's boyfriend and a failed NYC casino boss thought Zelenskyy's outfit was disrespectful of their royal magesties.
Guess who doesn't have a problem with Zelenskyy's clothes? The fucking king of England.

Why didn't THIS guy wear a suit to the WH?

(13,003 posts)the age old adage that "Clothes Don't Make the Man"...............
Just look at Trump who wears the same thing, day after day. They are especially tailored as "Bushel Britches" to make room for his oversized lard ass, and his oversized "Depends" diaper.............what a gluttonous, morbidly fat, slob.........
If you see him in his golf attire, you know why he always has to "buy" his women, Melania probably demanded "artificial insemination" over the usual method of conceiving, and why she demands separate bedrooms, if she even chooses to stay in the White House...........LOL

(12,189 posts)but he looks a tad pale to me. And what a beautiful smile and demeanor from President Zelenskyy. Reminds me of the song "What a Difference a Day Makes, Twenty-four Little Hours....". Zelenskyy reminds me of a Revolutionary Officer, I think his name was Francis Marion. He was short in stature, but mighty in spirit, and his soldiers loved him. Fought in the swamps of North or South Carolina. I just pulled this out of my memory, and now that I've said it, will go look Francis Marion up and see if I still have a brain.

(72,187 posts)I was visiting some friends in Liverpool a number of years ago, and I took some pictures of all of us to commemorate the visit. And when I looked at the pics, all of my Liverpudlian friends were almost deathly pale.
Many of my ancestors were from the British Isles, Germany and France. I am quite pale, myself. When I was a teenager I laid in the sun all the time where I was fried to a crisp with sunburn.
But still, I do think he was quite pale. His health has gone south of late.

(22,590 posts)Yes, Trump's suits are horrible.
He really doesn't seem to care or be particularly interested in clothes, which is surprising in someone so vain. His suits are like a uniform - they all look exactly the same. The only thing that ever changes is the color of the tie.

(22,590 posts)I could care less how fat Trump is. That has absolutely nothing to do with why I can't stand him or why I think he's a pathetically bad president. Trump deserves all the derision we can heap on him, and then some. But he's an asshole because he's an asshole, not because he's fat.
I'm not a fan of fat shaming...of anybody, even Trump. Making fun of the ugly orange makeup and the ridiculous combover doesn't bother me because those are conscious choices he makes, and imo, the fact that he actually chooses to look like that says something about how deranged he is. Same thing with the terrible clothes, which are also a choice he makes. Being fat, on the other hand, is not nearly as much of a choice as many assume.*
Trump is a horrible human being, but being fat isn't what makes him horrible. He could be skinny as a rail and still be a malignant narcissist, a wannabe fascist dictator, and all the other terrible things he is. His size is an entirely separate issue that really has nothing to do with how awful he is.
I live in Illinois, and our Democratic governor, JB Pritzker, is the best governor this state has had in decades. A lot of people think he should run for potus in 2028. He's also an all around high quality human being, who genuinely cares about people and wants to make things better for the residents of this state. You know what else he is? Fat. Yes, that's right. I'm pretty sure he's actually fatter than Trump. And it's completely beside the point. Pritzker's weight has nothing to do with what a great governor he is or what a stellar human he is, just as Trump's weight has nothing to do with what an incompetent, psychopathic loser he is. It's irrelevant, in both cases.
I know taking potshots at Trump's weight is an easy way to dunk on him, but we can do SO much better than that. He has a million bad qualities we could focus on, and the insults and rude nicknames we could lob at him based on those are endless. Mocking him because he's fat is taking the easy way out.

Illinois governor JB Pritzker
*I know a lot of people believe being fat is a choice, and that any fat person can simply choose not to be. God know we have all been exposed to a ton of antifat propaganda that reinforces those assumptions. But science has been pointing in a different direction for a while now. Here's just one article about that: https://www.smh.com.au/national/the-end-of-just-eat-less-science-doesn-t-see-being-fat-as-a-choice-20221027-p5btcp.html

(5,457 posts)First of all, if you make it a close fit, it would accentuate his big gut. Second, you have to try and cover his diaper in a way that does not draw attention to the diaper. That is not easy either. Third, his posture is terrible. He slumps and to look good, he would have to stand up straight and suck his gut in. That is something he is uncapable of doing.

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/fashion/style/king-charles-recycles-his-fathers-coat-67-year-later/
The sovereign, attending the Palm Sunday service near his Highgrove Estate in Gloucestershire, wore a coat that previously belonged to his father the Duke of Edinburgh who was first seen wearing it in 1956. The coat in question which the-then Prince Charles has worn previously without a belt while attending church in 2005 is a handsome affair, so its understandable that its been passed on through generations; a double-breasted camel coat with leather football buttons, exaggerated lapel and a distinctive belt. The Duke was a long-time client of Savile Row institution Kent, Haste & Lachter, and its likely to have been created by the house.
. . . .
King Charles has long advocated the importance of make do and mend in 2020, just before the pandemic, he enthused to The Telegraph about the importance of mending clothes and the peerless excellence of British-made clothing. The royal was taking in the Emma Willis shirtmaking factory in Gloucester at the time, and was curious about the minutiae of how each part of the shirtmaking process evolved. People throw so much away when they could easily mend, he told me.

https://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/maddowblog/white-house-takes-aim-zelenskyys-body-language-fashion-choices-rcna194515
But what is it, specifically, that Zelenskyy did that was wrong?
Zelenskyy apparently made the wrong fashion choices: Before the Ukrainian leader even entered the White House, he was greeted by Trump, who said: Look, youre all dressed up today. Interest in Zelenskyys clothing intensified from there, especially among conservative media personalities though they appeared far less concerned about Elon Musk wearing a baseball cap and a tech support T-shirt in the West Wing.
Zelenskyy apparently used body language the White House didnt like: During an appearance on CNNs State of the Union, White House national security adviser Mike Waltz said the Ukrainian president was incredibly disrespectful while being berated in the Oval Office. To bolster the point, he pointed to the body language, the shaking of head ... the arms crossed.
Zelenskyy apparently had criticisms for the authoritarian leader who invaded his country and butchered his people: After the Ukrainian leader said Russias Vladimir Putin hates Ukraine, Trump chided Zelensky for speaking badly about somebody else because if theres one thing we know about the Republican president, its that he just cannot abide speaking badly about people.
.....Each of these complaints make Trump and his team appear rather weak and easily offended unless, of course, the White House planned to take offense from the outset, and Republican officials looked for post-hoc rationalizations to justify the positions they were going to take anyway.

(8,923 posts)Charles has plenty of assistants who could have retrieved Zelenskyy from the doorstep, shown him to an interior room where Charles would be waiting, and the king would then rise to shake his hand. But no, right out to the front steps he came. And somebody must have okayed the presence of a photographer. Details are not neglected by the English Royals. As a gesture of respect for Zelenskyy, that was well played.
Also, I have not seen anyone mention that all the suited and tied guys in the oval office were rude lying traitors. It is a tribute to Zelenskyy's stature that he was thrown out of this White House. History will see this as one of his finest moments. Right up there with "I need ammunition. Not a ride."

(3,017 posts)After years back, my Incredibly Gorgeous Daughter asked me if I even owned a suit. She was fully aware of my tendency to indulge in a bit of blacksmithing or woodworking with complete disregard to what I was wearing, ruining a lot of dressy pants and shirts. So I tend to dress much like our Ukrainian gentleman. I own two...purchased as costumes and worn more often on stage than on the street. I consider suits to be elitist.
