Trump and Musk are likely to break things. It may intentional targeting of a program like Medicaid or SNAP. It may be an accidental bug introduced into something larger, such as social security or Medicare. It may be elsewhere. It may be a combination of things. Some people will be affected directly. Some, indirectly.
The certain way to prepare is to spend less and save more. If many people do that, it has more visibility than a one day boycott, because businesses and economists generally measure things by the month or quarter.
If I'm wrong, and nothing breaks, the worse that happens taking this route is that you end up with a better future kitty. I know not all can follow such advice. For those who can, now is the time.

Wouldn't that send a message to Chump and Musk?

(40,705 posts)Nothing is withheld from my social security so I file and pay up once a year. I'm not sure how many retirees do it that way, but it is our option. Also self-employed Americans are required to pay estimated income tax 4 times per year (in advance). But my point is, what if we all went on strike and just stopped filing?

The economy is in for a bumpy ride.
Try to savwe the best you can.
Most people do not have the option to "spend less and save more," especially those dependent upon Social Security.

Build up a financial nest egg - some under the mattress not all in the banks,...
Clear outstanding credit loans - interest rates may skyrocket.
Build networks of people to keep you/them grounded & connected so we can all work together to see our way out of this mess.
Etc., etc..

(24,486 posts)If those of us who only have Social Security and depend on Medicare/Medicaid and SNAP benefits have those programs cut, we will need help just to survive because otherwise there will be those of us who will die. So something, anything will help.
