Trump orders swathes of US forests to be cut down for timber

Last edited Tue Mar 4, 2025, 12:09 PM - Edit history (1)

President’s move to expand tree cutting across 280m acres evades rules to protect endangered species

Donald Trump has ordered that swathes of America’s forests be felled for timber, evading rules to protect endangered species while doing so and raising the prospect of chainsaws razing some of the most ecologically important trees in the US.

The president, in an executive order, has demanded an expansion in tree cutting across 280m acres (113m hectares) of national forests and other public lands, claiming that “heavy-handed federal policies” have made America reliant on foreign imports of timber.

You mean you want to tarrif Canada and have it not affect the price? We do realize that that is a short term solution right? There is only so much timber. We could continue normal relations like we’ve had for decades but no, let’s shit on Canada and cut down our forests.

First off National Forests have had timber sales since the system was first established years ago. Since that time a considerable amount of land has been withdrawn in designated Wilderness areas where no timber will be cut. As far as the rest of the forest which doesn’t have specific legislated protection some of it does contain “merch” I.e. timber which is large enough to harvest. Reagan upped the cut quite a bit in the 80s and some of that is almost ready to be put back into rotation.

However, the Forests are managed by professionals and they have standards and practices that Donny is not going to be able to just wave aside. Given that he fired so many FS staff they will be short of timber cruisers and , I’m guessing here but I worked with FS managers for a number of years, nobody is in a hurry to do his bidding. So be concerned, speak out to your Congressional Reps, but don’t get dismayed. The professionals are going to slow walk this until dumbass gets distracted with the next shiny object

Trump has no interest in anything except griftering others to fatten his wallet. He doesn't know Jack about running a business, but he knows a lot about filing multiple BKs. He hates dogs and nature in general and refused to get a puppy for his son Barron. His other two sons are obsessed with killing animals, especially in the case where Don Jr. was granted an exception by some Premier in the Nepal area to shoot and kill a rare endangered species there. Another form of shake down because Trump Sr. invited the Premier to the White House as his reward. Don Jr probably showed off his kill to the Dallas Safari Club for bragging rights. Has Trump done one thing for the environment, I can't think of anything, maybe because he's a POS and I can't stomach looking at his pancake makeup face, stupid hair combovers and ignorant lying statements. Lastly, does he know that ransacking our national forests is liken to straggling our atmosphere and the multiple other negatives associated with it? What a turd, driven by showing how powerful he is.

but here goes. About a decade ago a close relative who is a professor spent his summer visiting Israel and Gaza. On his last day
in Gaza he along with others planted a few trees. This was an act of civil disobedience as no one in Gaza was allowed to plant a tree. I could not understand this until it was explained that planting trees represents hope for the future. Any gardener knows
the satisfaction and hope that comes with caring for growing things. My own most spiritual experiences have been when I am
surrounded by trees. Trump is doing so much more than harvesting wood, he is endangering the soul of our people as he strives to rape the forests. He himself is soulless.

I live a few miles from an Interstate that connects this country to Canada. If you watch traffic for 5 minutes, you're likely to see at least one double log truck headed for the border to be processed in Canada. It's like that 24/7. Load after load after load. If he starts cutting everything in sight, all we'll have is piles of rotting logs in the forest.
