from a conclave now (and that is a non-religious assessment of the impact a Pope CAN have). I hope I am wrong. Someone pointed out that most of the cardinals who would select his replacement were actually elevated to Cardinal by Pope Francis. Someone to the right of Ratzinger is the last thing the world needs right now in our efforts to push back the rise of fascists- and in the US, those who hide behind "religion" (including some perverted form of Catholicism) to promote fascist ideology.

But, yes, if the Pope does pass, all eyes worldwide turn to the Vatican and the famous (infamous? ) white smoke. Trump and his MAGAT enablers will truly hate that.

My parents were in London when it was announced and when my mother told my Dad, he didn't believe her. A guy who I see at meetings is an ordained priest and he told me a joke last week about John Paul II, but I can't remember the punch line.

In a message addressed to the Pontifical Academy for Life on March 3, 2025, Pope Francis expressed concern about the loss of momentum of multilateralism, which is being undermined “by short-sighted attitudes concerned with protecting particular and national interests.” The Pope, who has been hospitalized since February 14, officially signed his text on February 26 from the Gemelli Hospital in Rome.

I think Pope Francisc died some days or a week ago. The constant reporting on his health is subtle weak signalling to those that know how to decode. This is what I chose to accept as fact. I don't blame the Vatican chancellery & staff for going this route.

As for conclave election, I think there's an ongoing proxy conclave ever since they sent him to hospital, until they make it ceremonial and official on whom they reveal to have chosen.

Why do I think this?

The next Bishop of Rome, Roman Catholic Pope, will be from: either Asia, or Africa, or maybe (but doubtful? again?) from the Americas.
There's no other explanation.

There's no other explanation than that the proxy conclave negotiations are still ongoing, tough, and there's no consensus as of yet, for when they'll play it in the official conclave to the rest of the public, world.
