Putin spokesman says Trump's foreign policy 'largely coincides' with Russia's vision
by Joey Garrison
USA TODAY, March 3, 2025
WASHINGTON ― A spokesman for Russian President Vladimir Putin praised U.S. foreign policy under President Donald Trump, saying it "largely coincides" with Russia's vision in a reversal he said was previously "impossible to imagine."
The comments from Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov come as Trump has upended the U.S. approach to Russia's war in Ukraine by holding peace negotiations with Russia, without representation from Ukraine or its European allies. A public spat between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy last Friday in the Oval Office raised doubts about continued U.S. financial support for Ukraine.
"The new (U.S.) administration is rapidly changing all foreign policy configurations," Peskov said in an interview aired Sunday on Russian state media. "This largely coincides with our vision."
Peskov conducted the interview on Wednesday, two days before a meeting between Zelenskyy and Trump at the White House unraveled, with Trump accusing the Ukrainian leader of wanting to start World War Three. Even before that, Trump has lashed out at Ukraine, blaming its leaders for Putins invasion and occupation of their country.

Vladimir Putins Investment in Donald Trump Pays Off Bigly
After secretly helping Trumps last three presidential campaigns, Russia is getting its moneys worth from him.

Talk about a good ROI. Vladimir Putins investment in Donald Trump is sure paying off.
In recent days, Trump has promoted Moscows horrendously false talking points, excoriating Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy as a dictator and blaming Ukraine for the brutal war that Putin, a real dictator, launched. He also kicked off talks with Russia to end the war and left out Ukraine. Its hard to imagine a better scenario for Putin. And at the United Nations, the Trump administration proposed a resolution on the war that declined to hold Russia responsible for the conflict. (It was amended to include language blaming Moscow and then passed, with Washington abstaining.)
Plus, the chaos caused by Trump and Elon Musks blitzkrieg against US government agencies could well redound to the Kremlins advantage. With national security agenciesthe CIA, the FBI, and othersand the Pentagon under siege due to this assault, their capabilities to defend the nation from threats posed by Russia or other adversaries will be diminished. All the Trump/Musk-generated conflict is in sync with Putins long-standing aim to sow discord in the United States.
Moreover, on her first day in office, Attorney General Pam Bondi disbanded the FBIs Foreign Influence Task Force, which sought to counter secret operations waged by Russia, China, and other foes to affect US elections. She also cut back enforcement of the Foreign Agents Registration Act, a tool used by the feds to neutralize malign influence and disinformation operations. And now the FBI is being run by Kash Patel, a MAGA provocateur who has hailed the January 6 rioters and who has echoed Putins phony claim that Moscow did not clandestinely intervene in the 2016 campaign and assist Trump.

I'm so old that I can remember when the Government of the United States actually defended the Constitution from its enemies, both foreign and domestic.

If Putin spoke privately to Trump and provided a to-do list, it would look much like WH agenda from the last six weeks. ð

It was an unsatisfying response to one of the worlds most important lines of inquiry, but the presidents evasiveness was ultimately inconsequential: The facts of the Republicans alignment with Russias wishes are so painfully obvious, and theyre part of a series of events that appear to be intensifying. NBC News reported:
The Trump administration is pausing military aid to Ukraine, according to two U.S. officials, following last weeks public clash between President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in the Oval Office. The president has been clear that he is focused on peace. We need our partners to be committed to that goal as well, a White House official said Monday. We are pausing and reviewing our aid to ensure that it is contributing to a solution.
In case this isnt obvious, the more the White House halts support for Ukraine, the more likely it is that Ukraine will no longer be able to protect itself against Russian aggression......
Consider what all of these recent moves have in common:
The Trump administration halted cyber operations and information operations against Russia.
Trump upbraided Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy while peddling Kremlin-style talking points.
Trump suggested Putin was a victim of the 2016 Russia scandal.
The Trump administration is terminating an initiative to protect Ukraines energy grid.
Trump is prepared to reward Russia by welcoming it back into the G7.
The Trump administration disbanded the FBIs Foreign Influence Task Force.
The Trump administration pared back enforcement of the Foreign Agents Registration Act.
The Trump administration disbanded the Justice Departments program responsible for enforcing Russian sanctions and targeting oligarchs close to the Kremlin.
The Trump administration slashed the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).
The Trump administration targeted U.S. intelligence officials as part of its mass firing campaign.
Trumps delegation to the United Nations voted with Russia and against U.S. allies on a resolution condemning Russian aggression in Ukraine.
And did I mention that Senate Republicans, at Trumps behest, confirmed Tulsi Gabbard as the nations director of national intelligence, despite her habit of echoing Russian propaganda? Because that happened, too.
