(58,283 posts)The American people need to see that Dems oppose this shit. Republicans always showed up to SOTUs to make their opposition clear under Dem presidents. Live posting is useless, only her devoted followers will see that.

(8,815 posts)3.8 million followers on TikTok
Hakeem Jeffries has about 486 thousand on IG
Chuck Schumer about 37 thousand. The DSCC has about 40 thousand.
I can't find a presence of the House of Representatives Democrats as a group.
AOC is more engaged with more democrats at any given moment than you care to realize.

(58,283 posts)While I truly do appreciate AOC, I am not seeing her Instagram following helped us. And I really do care. If she was so connected with Dems, why couldn't she get out the vote for Kamala, even in her own NY district. AOCs district saw a massive shift to Trump during the 2024 presidential election. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/jan/18/slug-new-york-trump-voters-aoc-district
LuvLoogie
(8,815 posts)All of her elections have been at or near 70%. She wasn't the one undercutting the Democratic ticket. People on the left were calling her a sellout. The suicide Joe crowd.
You were stating that on line live streams were pointless. I'm telling you, next to the Obamas, she is the Democrat with the highest online presence. People like her. She has some crossover appeal, too.
I mean Democrats spent 100s of millions of dollars on TV and that didn't help Kamala, did it?
SunSeeker
(58,283 posts)What good is her Instagram following to Democrats if she can't turn them out to vote for a Dem running against DONALD FUCKING TRUMP?
LuvLoogie
(8,815 posts)in getting people to vote for Kamala. And AOC hasn't been around nearly as long as Chuck has.
Look, your metric for judging the worth of her online presence is all over the place.
Does anybody know who is giving the Democratic response, BTW?

(58,283 posts)In 2020, 77% of voters in AOCs congressional district, which covers parts of the Bronx and Queens, cast their ballot for Biden, while Trump got just 22%. That 55-point gap was cut by nearly half, with Vice President Harris securing just under 65% of the ballots cast in NY-14 to Trumps 33%.
LuvLoogie
(8,815 posts)62% in the Bronx
AOC 71% in Queens 66% in the Bronx
I mean Kamala lost all the battle ground states. That's not on AOC.

(58,283 posts)I'm watching our Dems boo Trump and hold up "Musk Steals" signs and Dem Representative Alexander N. Green get dragged out. THAT is what all Dems should be doing. Take it to Trump!
LuvLoogie
(8,815 posts)She got 51% and 49 %
Green ran unopposed.
So
SunSeeker
(58,283 posts)Are you saying he should have done a livestream instead?
LuvLoogie
(8,815 posts)You say that AOCs livestreams are pointless, that only her followers will see them. I point out she has over 8 million followers on Instagram. Then you say that didn't help her in electing Harris and bring up the vote in her district for Harris as proof. I mean it's non sequitur after non sequitur.
She is one of the most continually engaged Congresspersons. She has about 10,000 on her live stream now. I think it was around twenty thousand earlier. She just ended. She has these lives regularly. You should check them out. Follow her on Instagram and TikTok. Follow Congressman Green, too. I just did. He has about 28,000 followers on IG.
Funny thing is that AOC and Al Green have the same number of posts on Instagram but AOC has about 280 times as many followers. A close look at their posts kind of reveals why. Al Greens Instagram posts are mostly reposts of his twitter posts, whereas AOC's posts are videos of her testimony, speeches, committee hearings, and topical content made specifically for IG and TikTok, where she discusses her views on camera.
Now Al Green might gain a few thousand more followers after tonight, but people will lose interest if all he does is link his twitter posts.
AOC's not showing at the SOTU IS a protest. People notice that, too, but that isn't all she is doing. She has been continually engaged since she started. And she certainly has been at the forefront of opposing trump. Go check out her IG feed and look at some of her videos.
SunSeeker
(58,283 posts)What Al Green did at SOTU, THAT was a protest. We needed more of that.
Like you say, AOC does these livestreams regularly. And those livestreams didn't help our nominee against Trump. Nor help us increase the youth vote. Nor is it a protest.

(4,131 posts)I've sat through enough of his rallies and speechesmight as well see it through. Like Ive said before, my brother and his family are down in Florida, full-fledged Trump supporters. I'm well aware there are... other names for it.
We talk almost every morning. Honestly, it gives me the perfect excuse to approach things in a slow, methodical waylaying out just how wildly off the rails things have gotten. He usually laughs at me, of course.
But hey, you cant pick your family. And no matter how much we disagree, Im not about to stop talking to them. Love wins.
