When they're on their own, they do a lot of showy things that don't add up to much. They vent their conspiracy theories on Fox, hold ridiculous country music festivals where minorities are kinda-sorta not welcome, etc.

It's only the external organizing principle that brings them to meaningful action in the political sphere. Russia created this situation. There's no cohesion among the fascists without them.

Severing that line of communication and resources from Moscow is an important strategic goal for Americans to achieve.

The only way Trump could do this through executive order was if it was for security reasons, that is why he keeps referring to fentanyl and illegals crossing the border. We all know this is not his reasons and the facts show it is not the problem he claims.

I have been speaking French for over 50 years. It's almost second nature to me now, among a few other languages. If a country borders on Germany, where I live, I pretty much have to speak the language (Czech is the major exception).

My friends in Paris like to recount an incident from the Cannes film festival a few decades ago. There was an entry from Québec one year, and the festival organizers ordered subtitles in French for the festival viewers. The filmmakers from Québec protested vehemently that no French subtitles were needed, since the film was in "French." The festival organizers told them they could call it whatever they wanted, but they couldn't understand a word of the dialogue, and if they wanted their film entered, there would be French subtitles. I don't remember what the outcome was, but I imagine the Canadians allowed the subtitles under protest, as that was not as bad as having their film tossed out altogether.

I have forgotten a lot but I hope it would come back. People used to think I was from the Loire valley when I was there and someone once thought my father was Corsican. I found the upper class accent the easiest to understand, Paris was harder because they speak very fast and swallow their words.

My grandmother spoke several languages including Yiddish /German, Hebrew, Polish, and all the slavic languages and then learned English. Someone here once started speaking Polish to me, lol.

I sometimes toss in some confusion for fun and say “septante” and “nonnante” for 70 and 90.

My grandparents were all born in the USA, so all my languages were learned in junior high school or later. Some, like Catalan, Schwyzerdüütsch, French, Dutch and Italian, were through experience and “on the job training,” but others, like Swedish, Russian, German and Spanish were from school or formal University instruction. I can fake it in Norwegian and Danish only because they are all practically the same language as Swedish with regional differences.

The last languages I tried to learn were Navajo / Dine and Hebrew. I learned some Navajo but got side tracked. The app for Hebrew was terrible because it didn't have anything spelled phonetically in English and expected you to pick out words etc. from the written Hebrew and sound without ever knowing what it was, which was so hard because I don't know the alphabet. Maybe one day. I do know a bit of Hebrew phonetically but not much.
