What a great idea. And one that Dems should embrace and do. What a great opportunity to continue what Bernie is doing w/his Oligarchy Tour in red states. How terrific it would be to have Walz/Sanders or Walz/AOC or Walz/Murphy or Walz/Wyden or Walz/Crockett etc. show up in districts where Republicans won't do a townhall?
Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) offered to host town halls in districts where Republicans are now refusing to hold them.
Thats a shame, Walz said, responding to the GOP news. If your Republican representative wont meet with you because their agenda is so unpopular, maybe a Democrat will.
Hell, maybe I will, he continued in a post on social platform X. If you congressman refuses to meet, Ill come host an event in their district to help local Democrats beat em.

(108 posts)And what about Democrats who have run in these red districts or who plan to run in them showing up also?

(6,589 posts)difficult. Let's hope this idea gathers steam. And it has to be with people like Walz and Sanders and others who have credibility - add Andy Beshear into the mix.

I think, just my own opinion, hed be terrible. I mean, what he showed on the campaign trail was that he was kind of weak, Turrentine said. He is very liberal and hes gonna have to defend the Biden-Harris ticket that he served on I just think theres nothing that I have seen from him, or that I saw from him, that would augment that you would be a strong national candidate.

(6,589 posts)who is such an exciting Tennessee rep to get together with Tim Walz and do one. I know the Tim Walz tweets are taking off all over Bluesky so maybe the idea will get taken seriously by some.
Richard Hudson who said no one should do town halls anymore is from North Carolina. He won his districts by 56.3% vote. The D was Nigel Bristow who got 37.8%. Maybe if there's someone here who lives in NC they can reach out to Bristow and encourage them to do this with. None of the D Reps from NC seem outspoken. Maybe Roy Cooper (ex Gov) could hit the road with Walz and do it.

It's amazing what one learns by reading international papers, not US papers. If I can find the article I'll post it.

(6,589 posts)On Monday 17 February, the Governor of Minnesota Tim Walz, paid a visit to the Clingendael Institute in The Hague to discuss the future of clean industrial strategy. With a new US administration in office, federal priorities may shift, but the fifty US states have broad autonomy to pursue their own policies.
Minnesota has close business ties with the Netherlands. Nearly 7.000 Minnesotans work for one of more than a dozen Dutch companies with a footprint in this state and more than thirty Minnesotan companies operate in the Netherlands.
Although the United States is no longer part of the Paris Climate Agreement, Minnesota continues to push an ambitious climate agenda.
The Governor discussed how US states can independently shape strategic industrial policies and the opportunities this creates for Dutch companies and policymakers in an era of (geo)political change.
The event brought together journalists, business leaders, researchers, and policymakers. The Governor of Minnesota was welcomed by Rem Korteweg, Head of Clingendael's US programme and the Q&A led by Louise van Schaik, Clingendael's Head of EU & Global Affairs Unit.
There's video in the link.
I don't think it had anything to do with the ICC. There are other entities in the Hague.
What I love about Walz is that he seems like your regular guy dad teacher - but he's got a depth about him and a diverse knowledge of things that is quite complex.

We have congress members who are Dems but are KC/STL. The rest is red.
Btw-had a friend at Alford's town hall. She tore into him. She said she's going to terrorize him the way I used to do to Vicky Hartzler, lol. Vicky hated me.

(1,722 posts)Yes, Tim, Yes!!!! Democrats need to be a visible presence in EVERY (EVERY!) DISTRICT! Town-hall once a month by Dem Representative, or Candidate. Be prepared to offer help and help find solutions to the fuckery afoot. Help them navigate this shitstorm. This is where we demonstrate our humanity and True Patriotism. It will be a waste of time to try to legislate, so it makes better sense to go to the mattresses and promote solidarity among The People. Soon, all Americans are going to begin to feel and internalize what is really being done to them. This is where we embrace and advocate for Democrats and such Republicans as become aware of our common plight. They will need help from their neighbors and we need them to demonstrably see there is another, better way to treat each other. If we get one more chance to Vote, we will need everybody on-board, and we should be ready to welcome any who have lost faith in whatever-this-is and can be convinced to stand up for their values, convictions, their Home. In EVERY DISTRICT!

(525 posts)absentee dickbag. He hasn't had even ONE Town Hall in
6 Years with his constituents. He only comes back to the
district (MN8), for Ribbon-cuttings of projects he voted
against (Infrastructure Bill), or big $ (R) Fund-Raisers!
It would be great to have Tim W host TownHalls along with
the Senators Klobuchar and Smith and the other Dem Reps,
to oust these Trumpy deadbeats.
Tim should also do these in other states.
On edit: Please be sure to advertise these events as
open to ALL constituents, Republicans welcome.
