Watching, "Saving Private Ryan," now

The number of men who were killed right in the beginning landing on Omaha Beach was incredible. And it doesn't get much better. Tremendous heroism by patriots. Fighting fascists, fighting for democracy.

If those men could see what is going on in our country now, they would realize that the current government puts no value on those fine qualities, and would care less about them and their sacrifice. May even call them suckers and losers.

Makes me cry.

Lost an arm. Was with us till 2004. Quiet, soft spoken gentleman. The only time I saw him angered was when the subject came to republicans.

But the Grand Daddy of all American one-day battle losses was Antietam where 23,000 were KIA, MIA and wounded in one day.

is emotionally exhausting. I have to have it recorded since I must stop periodically to catch my breath and regain my composure.

But the real horror for many vets was seeing what a "person" could do to other humans when they liberated the concentration camps. I've watched many testimonies from vets and "war is hell" can't begin to describe their experiences. So many still couldn't discuss it with their friends and families due to PTSD.
