He's actually not my representative, but he is one Texas politician that I am very proud of tonight.
Way to go, Congressman!

(2,691 posts)It takes courage to overcome fear. Thank you Congressman Green for having courage. We applaud you.
Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people wont feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.

(178,604 posts)Al is in a heavily gerrymandered district that includes part of my county. I am in a neighboring district. Despite the fact that he only represents part of the count, Al has stepped up for all Democrats in my county. I got to know Al back in 2007/2008 when I was doing voter protection. Al had me speak at a couple of his town halls and used me to upstage Sheila Jackson Lee at one of Sheila's events. Sheila's son and my son were in the same grade for two years and Sheila knew that I am a corporate law attorney. I could see her grimace when Al introduced me as a civil rights attorney. My kids were with me at an event when Al introduced me as a civil rights attorney and still laugh at this.
I still remember when Al introduced me to John Lewis as a voting rights attorney. I got a hug from John Lewis and got to shake his hand. I also got several of his books signed.
I was at a fundraiser for Hillary and Al introduced me to her as his attorney. Hillary knew that Al is full of it and laughed. Al took my cell phone away and took several pictures of Hillary and me. I ended up using these photos to run for national convention delegate.
I was a Clinton delegate to the 2016 National Convention and I remember when Al was centerstage when the votes of the Texas delegation were read. I laughed when Al did the same thing at the 2024 convention for Kamala Harris.
I still remember Sheila and Al competing for TV time and time with either President Obama or President Biden at SOTUs. It used to be said that the most dangerous place on earth was to be between Sheila Jackson Lee and a TV camera. Al is also very good at getting on TV.
Al introduced resolutions to impeach trump in early 2017 and has already introduced a resolution to impeach trump just four weeks ago
I was not watching the convention but I have seen some of the clips from tonight. I am proud that Al is from my part of Texas.

(777 posts)"No mandate" is a good thing to say in the press conference afterward. It's an argument. Shouting is not the moment for an argument, it's the moment for galvanizing the public. Slogans are always goofy, but something like "Free America!" would be more potent.

(36,837 posts)but i read thru a couple articles about it that included various shirts, a few walk outs, signs, and al green.
the last article i looked at had a fucking quote from sen chris coons and his bitchy little snip at the end of the article -- really pissed me off that he just had to get his name in the fucking paper:
It was not only Republicans who criticized Greens protest. Sen. Chris Coons (D-Del.) told The Hill after the speech that the Texas Democrats display was counterproductive.
I think to stand up and say, you know, he doesnt have a mandate to cut Medicare, fine, but I think he, I think it went beyond decorum, he said.
https://thehill.com/homenews/house/5177130-johnson-democratic-rep-al-green-should-be-censured-for-shameful-protest/
i was glad to read what green did. good for him! and i thank him.
(as far as coons is concerned...
