and from that I have learned to only look at the big picture. The big picture is the day the judge makes a decision. All the little battles (motions, appeals, etc.) leading up to the big battle are not worth the time spent worrying about them. Things can change with the next motion. If a person agonizes over them, they can make life miserable.
This is a legal battle. Why? Because trump doesn't know how to do what he's trying to do by democratic principles. He doesn't have the ability. Thus the correct means of dealing with this in our system is through a lawsuit.
Furthermore, he hasn't won any of these battles except for one, and that is being appealed. Even his bought and paid for stooges on the SC didn't give him a free pass this morning.
So I don't know what you find distressing.
Your distress is all time you'll never get back. I'm not above distress myself but I'll reserve it for something like my transmission going out on my car, not some cheap crook like trump.

of our dear northern neighbors and trading partners. Trump doesn't have to actually win all of his battles or the war to create feelings of ill-will towards the US from former allies. After all, the record indicates trump 1-2% more of the popular vote. What the US does in 2026 will determine how betrayed our neighbors feel.

I remember how lovely that picture of The Three Amigos was (Obama, Trudeau, Nieto).

battles. And certainly at times I can look at the situation almost as if I could look back at it from a distance.
But there's an urgency here and people are going to suffer. How much damage can this cabal do before they are stopped and how long will it take?
Our government is going through a hostile takeover and I fear it will take years to recover.

that our Canadian friends are dealing with this very well. We should emulate them. I love that picture above. I think the Canadians know it is this nutcase that stole his way into the WH and it is not us.

There is a really good article I ran across from Vox that tells about the strength of the checks and balances of our system. I am going to format it and post it tomorrow or the next day.

I realize that my experiences have made it easier for me to see that they are going to fail.* At the time I went through them, it was very hard. For example, the first extended lawsuit I did was when computers were just beginning to be bought by regular middle class Americans. I not only had to learn how to use a computer, I had to get one for myself and this was when they were very expensive. In addition, I had to learn the legal system: all in about six weeks! Actually less than that--they only give you 20 days or so to prepare your papers--that means research, legal writing and citation, formatting, filing: there's a lot to it. Imagine learning to produce papers on a computer at the same time! My brain was so scrambled that I was walking into walls.

I didn't realize that those decades of such work taught me something invaluable and that is paying off now. I look around me and see the angst of people here and know that my experiences have spared me all that.

The most important thing you can do is keep your spirits up. You can't worry about others: take care of your own mental attitude first. Then you'll be in a place where you can help others.

*note that they are starting to "get it." See this link where the GOP is telling them how stupid they are in going about things the way they have.

I really appreciate your viewpoint, even though it took me a bit to get there. And,
obviously a lot of thought has gone into your posts.
I, too think the Canadians are handling things well.
I do take time to consciously and intentionally do things to get my mind off all that's swirling around right now.

Thanks for the 30,000 foot view.

He was on Nicolle's show yesterday and repeated several times how Canadians love their U.S. friends and neighbors and do not want to be on this foolish path of tariffs, etc. I always thought he was a pretty crazy conservative but he sure has it right this time.
