ICE raided a house on my street...

I live in western North Carolina.

My neighbor told me that two days ago a bunch of sheriff's trucks and unmarked cars raided a house under construction two doors down from me. The house had been cut in two by a tree during Helene.

Now for the last two days there has been no crew working on the house.

This is the prefect symbol of our government harming citizens through their actions against poor immigrants.

You don't assembly an on-demand crew of experienced construction/remediation workers from American workers. They either already have jobs, or don't have the skills, physical ability to do the work.

They are usually brought in by contractors who provide housing in disaster areas and equipment for the work. It's idiotic to arrest them.

The workers are deported back to whatever awful conditions they escaped from, probably having to leave families behind; the house isn't getting repaired; the homeowner can't find any more workers and the house deteriorates; the homeowner probably has to rent a place to live and still has to pay property tax and mortgage on the damaged house. Everybody wins, right?

There are still some items outside and I never saw them move out. At first I thought just the wife and kids were gone, but I haven't seen the husband for 3 weeks. I think they left on their own, maybe during the night, but I really don't know. I didn't know their immigration status, didn't care. I just hope they are ok.

I'm a minority white guy, even in my own home.

I grew up in a community that was 99% white and there is no way in hell I'd ever go back to a place like that. I haven't lived in a majority white community for 40+ years.

It's all so senseless. My wild west white grandpa had a fit when my wife and I announced our engagement. In his family men didn't marry "Mexican girls," as he called her. He boycotted our wedding. To his credit he got over it, but maybe that's because my wife was better at math than he was, and probably smarter too, which is saying a lot because he was an aerospace engineer who worked on the Apollo Project and a pretty good writer too.

There are already rumblings about targeting the LGBTQA+ community and deporting them as 'undesirables'.

As a gay male who was born in the south, I knew better than to be 'public' about myself. Being in rock bands allowed me some leeway, but still, not public. Then, I met my hubby when I should have been in the ground, and he and I made a life together. We got hitched in 2004, and it became legal in 2014. Now, they want to deport us because they don't like what we represent.

We are the anthesis of their 'dream society'. Conformity and control. Two gender and one is in charge, by Gawd!

My only comfort is that most of these idiots think gay men are willowy, fey little dudes who lisp and sashay around wearing heels.

Yeah, I grew up on a farm. I did time in the military. I love the outdoors. I don't run from a fight.

Like Rorschach said, "You don't get it, do you? I am not locked up in here with you. You are locked up in here with me!"

Time we all took that attitude, I think.

17. This is exactly what happened right next door home

The house right next to mine was going through a massive renovation as a result of a fire. They had to remove the entire roof including the rafters. Pulled all the windows out. Pulled off siding. Everything is exposed to the elements. The day right after the orange asshole got installed, the workers, all Hispanic, vanished.

The house stands as it is. With huge piles of debris on the front and back lawns. It’s been over a month now.

Pretty soon it will be a complete tear down and no longer a renovation.

The real estate company, that owns the house, are a bunch of right wing halfwits
