I got my WEP backpay adjustment! Almost $7400! This should mean going forward my monthly payment should increase as well. I simply can't believe it. Take that Eloon!

WEP?

Windfall Elimination Provision.
My monthly SS has been reduced because I have a private retirement plan thru my previous employer. It finally passed congress to eliminate the WEP because it's unfair. I (and 3m others) should receive the SS we worked for. I paid into SS for years before I came under my retirement program with my last employer. The amazing thing is that it actually came thru with the mayhem that's going on internally at SS. Although I retired and have received my reduced amount since 2015, the backpay is effective only from January 2024 forward.

(4,598 posts)and one last question, did you get any email about it? (I think scammers might try to use this as a ploy to get people to click on links or phish for their info. I doubt they sent an email, a confirmation would help others)
My ex is expecting to receive quite a bit himself.
Labeled "Federal Benefit Credit," same as my monthly payments. And yes, I got an email from SS a couple of weeks ago. There was a link in the email, but to be safe I exited my email program and logged in directly to SS with my LogIn.Gov ID and password.
Great! Happy for you and millions of others! I had never heard of that.
..most haven't unless affected. Nobody I've spoken with had even heard of it. Many of my co-workers didn't know about it until filing for SS. Some surprise when trying to plan for income in retirement. It really flew under the radar for years. We can thank Rayguns for implementing this boondoggle. Another RW attack on SS.

My SS was reduced because I had a CSRS retirement as well, so by the time I pay for my Medicare, I only receive $171.00 a month. As long as my Medicare was paid for, I was happy, but now it seems I don't need to worry.
That is is we still have a functioning Government in the next few years. 😖
