This guy is an amateur radio operator/repair tech.
The kind of people I get on my radio and talk to daily
"For God's sake, somebody please put a stop to this man."
Thanks, Trump.

(30,008 posts)He was a ham operator and inventor. He was also a radioman during WWII. It's a hobby I've thought of pursuing to better understand him.

(28,083 posts)Find an amateur radio club near you and talk to someone.
You don't have to spend a ton of money either.
$50 or so will get you on 2 meters with a handheld, which will enable you to use your local clubs repeater.
It's a great hobby/avocation, especially during emergencies

(28,083 posts)Actually, it was the method the French Underground used to communicate with the Allies in England.
"Radio operators played a key role in the Allied liberation of France during World War II. They were parachuted into France to link up with the Resistance and provide a vital link between the Allied command and resistance fighters.
Radio operators in France
Georges Bégué: The first SOE agent to parachute into France in 1941
Noor Inayat Khan: A radio operator for the SOE who was arrested by the Gestapo in 1943
Jedburgh teams: Radio operators who parachuted into France from June to September 1944
Radio operations in France
Radio Londres
Broadcasted to the Resistance, including the first stanza of Paul Verlaine's poem "Chanson d'automne" shortly before the D-Day landings
Allied underground radio operators
Were ruthlessly pursued by the Germans and had a life expectancy of six months
Radio operators and the Resistance
The Germans had a particular interest in turning radio operators who could compromise an entire Resistance network
To avoid capture and torture, the ideal for an agent was to set up, transmit, dismantle, and get away within a maximum of 20 minutes "

(40,328 posts)... and you don't have to suffer whatever MAGA fools make your local amateur radio community look ugly. My own local community is largely engineering nerds who are disinterested in politics, sometimes frustratingly so, the sorts of people I imagine sitting out this last presidential election. They are serious about leaving religion and politics out of the conversation.
My radio socializing happens mostly on the internet. For me that doesn't take away the thrill of actual radio communications.

(18,690 posts)Been listening to the CBC and the Canada Talks talk station on SiriusXM all week and there has been a shift.
Monday and Tuesday, nearly every person who spoke about the tariffs was careful to say that Trump was doing this, not the American people--because they still wanted to believe in our goodness. But for some reason--maybe the initial shock has given way to seething rage--that distinction was absent this morning in the programs I listened to.
The Canadians on those stations have begun to just lump us all together. It's "the Americans" doing this to us. It's "America." They are not wasting any time drawing a distinction between Trump, or the Trump administration, and all of us.
It's horrific what this tyrannical degenerate is doing to our alliances and reputation.

(4,420 posts)No concept that people have been working since the Patriot Act to stop the madness here. Im sorry for his pain. We all feel it. For years I have been telling my Canadian friends to watch out. The QAnon/ MAGAs were a global group and Canada had them too
.nope, they said couldnt effect them but yet the bridges were blocked and pickup trucks with Maple leaf flags had been building in the country. They lifted nose and said it could never happen there. It was the Americans fault
United States problem. Until
this monster regained the WH and he started telling everyone what he was going to do. Canadians woke up in a big fat hurry. Who knows what another ten years of Q would have done up there. I am happy that Canadians have the politicians in place to guide them through this. They have pulled together. By standing strong with other nations around the planet the message may get through to Washington! This may be our last hope.
Im so pleased that this man can say all of this with such bravado. Feel good about yourself sir. But I have to ask if you found a raped teenager in a ditch would you tell her to quit her crying, pull up her pants and track that guy who did that and put him out? Many people have been trying to stop the madness here but it is beyond the pockets of most of us. Half of this country does not deserve to hear your story sir. My best to you. Stay safe and live to tell how you told people off who already knew they were on a trail that more than likely would end in disaster.

(5,081 posts)It isnt just one man to stop.
It isnt all Americans that brought this on.
He doesnt believe we can fix this. I get that, not at the rate we are seeing right now. More and more Americans are waking up and I believe, so many more will.
No one knows, no one REALLY knows how this will end. If we all believed what this man believes -that we cant fix this, we would not be doing all we can to do so.
We ARE doing all we can, and we are growing, and strength lies in numbers.
So, I am going to keep fighting, I am going to have a bigger tent for those who wake up, however late. BUT - they need to decide to become part of the solution and for those that do, we need to recognize when they are willing to do exactly that, and let them in. That is going to make a world of difference!
More people did not even vote, than those that voted for trump.
More people didnt vote than those who voted for Harris.
So, what do we do with that?
My guess is we aim to reach for those who are regretting their trump vote and for those who didnt vote at all.
How?
Perhaps by forgetting the divisive rhetoric in social media, the resentment toward those who regret and truly feel betrayed by the lies, and also toward those who didnt vote that regret it and learned their voice actually does matter - that their silence was a vote in itself.
Perhaps we Incorporate bulleted facts and bulleted solutions in our messaging toward them
-SPEND EQUAL time addressing THESE People, as we spend with what we are saying now.
We can not afford to ignore these other Americans for one more minute.
-Most absolutely not in our airtime when we get it.
-Not in our speeches when we give them.
-Not in our town halls when we have them.
-NOT in our never-ending podcasts andinterviews
-Most definitely NOT in our abundance of YouTube shows!
But of course, its just my opinion, and a mere fraction of the thoughts and feelings Im having (and Im aware that Im not alone).

In hindsight, I could have gone on way longer, but it's really a challenge to process the sheer volume of incoming madness. It takes time to accurately express a thought.
Sometimes I begin a response in a thread, andi I wind up never posting it because frankly my head is spinning half the time. I'm sure it's happening to most of us.
I'm so grateful for this community, I never feel alone here. There are countless times I read threads and there's always someone who will verbalize exactly what I'm feeling and it helps me clarify some of what is going on inside me. I truly value that amongst so much more.

As a duel citizen born in Canada, I feel for him and people there. I think he should acknowledge though that just under half the people in the US (of those who voted and who were not suppressed etc. )did not for vote any of this and we are not to blame for it. Canada has its own fair share of right wingers too. The system there I believe though and in the UK would not allow for such a person to rise to power. And there is a way to get rid of anyone like that pretty quickly, especially in the UK.
I think Canada is strong and will prevail over this insanity. Last I heard orange psycho has reversed the tariffs again? I hope so.

(5,034 posts)There are a great many of us who didn't vote for tsf, and who are just as pissed of as the guy in the video is about what's being done. Some of us are aware of how bad things are and they're going to get worse. We do care because we are losing our country to the shit head and his cult.
I remember on Twitter before Muskrat took over. A Russian woman who loved to chat about American TV posted "I hope people don't hold all Russian's responsible for Putin's actions". This was in 2017 so my reply was I won't as long as you don't hold all Americans responsible for Trump. She put a laughing emoji, and replied "I won't because a lot of you have made it very clear you didn't vote for him."
So this Canadian guy can be pissed at tsf, muskrat and the asshats that voted for them. Many of us share that anger, but don't lump us in with the scum who voted for tsf or talk like we are all to blame because a lot of us didn't vote for him.

(13,155 posts)and you cannot deny that is 50% of your electorate. This great "democracy" has shown its impotence in the face of tyrannical leader that lied his way through to obviously ignorant and unengaged voters. I have watched people say well I voted for him for this and that, but not what he is doing now. Anyone with half a brain would have known what he would do if elected. I once thought maybe it was rigged but after listening to Americans that voted for him, I am just convinced there are a lot of really stupid people. If someone criticizes your country you cannot take it personally but you MUST acknowledge there is a very big problem and you are living with the results.
BlueKota
(5,034 posts)Hell I am angry at our government and those that voted for tsf. If you count the number of Harris voters, the people who were disenfranchised, and the percentage of people who didn't vote, however, it should be clear tsf was not given a mandate by all of us.
I do think people who didn't vote are partially responsible, and shouldn't be sparred some criticism, but if they were his rabid cult members who applaud everything he does, they would have voted for him.
Again I don't hold all Russian's responsible for what Putin does, or all Israeli's or Palestinians responsible for what their leadership does, or all Chinese people responsible for Xi's regime. To not even recognize there is a large number of people who oppose these regimes is giving an unfair and unbalanced assessment of the situations, and ignoring the pain and anger of people who are also innocent victims.
Also at least on social media there are plenty of Americans siding with and defending Canada.
Just my opinion, but I don't like it when people make generic assumptions about a large group of people, and lump them all together, or blame even the people who aren't responsible for the bad actions of others. Then again group punishment is a sore spot for me because of grade school, and a mother who was constantly blaming me for things I didn't do.

(3,653 posts)Also, the following statements in this video are true and especially chilling:
"I don't think American people are really interested in what their government is doing. I also don't think American people can stop their government." (At 0:44.)
One main feature of our government from its founding has been our ability to change it. But a strong majority is required, and something strange is happening in that I don't see a majority bubbling to the surface and objecting to Trump's agenda. I don't know if it's fear, apathy, ignorance or that a true majority actually understands and agrees with these changes.
The first opportunity for change is the courts. That method has been underutilized and has yielded mixed results so far.
The next opportunity is the house and the '26 election. Our opposition voice must start now if we are to have a chance there.
But, we need an opposition to take the lead and give us an institution we can rally behind and build a critical mass. Standing up for what's right at an individual level won't cut it. The longer opposition to Trump stays as silent as it has been over the last 45 days, the worse things will get, and the harder it will be to stall this Nazi agenda.
Justice matters.

(124 posts)I want to thank you sir for expressing your views regarding the danger of Donald Trump's road map to autocratic control of our previous democracy.
Using Project 2025 as their model, Trump and his sycophants are in the process of taking down the Constitution and replacing it with a dictator run government. From appointing totally unqualified cabinet secretaries to support from the spineless Republican congress and senate chamber. In just over a month,Trump has gleefully carried out Putin's orders. Ukraine is being forced into capitulation with Trump and Vance by the obvious set up in the oval office. This was the second time Trump has ambushed Ukraine, the first during Trump's first term when he threatened Zelenski of stopping $190 million in military and aid support unless Zelenski came up with dirt against Biden.
How many times have his claims been outright lies? Too many to count, the election was rigged, he will fix everything in 24 hours, nothing was fixed. The problem is the fact his MAGA morons keep getting taken by his non-stop conspiracy theories, perpetuated by the news media like Fox News, right wing radio, Russian propaganda, Podcasters, etc., etc.
Wake up America and pressure your weak Republican reps to resist his corrupt intentions and don't believe anything that either Trump or his supervisor Musk says. God save America.
