speech on decorum in Congress?
One is urgently needed complete with video clips of MAGAts violating said decorum.

but decorum might best be left to an old timer with "gravitas".

(18,650 posts)Congressional decorum and gravitas got us into this mess, it won't get us out of it.
maybe i used "gravitas" to stand in for "white male"
but maybe , considering the subject and desired audience, that is the only speaker they might listen to.
another thought : can you imagine the "decorum" of their drama caucus during such a speech?

(60,976 posts)I think both would.
My question would be whether a speech on decorum is the best use of our time. There are so many more big issues to address.
In addition, while the worst behavior in the Congress has been several Republicans that all of us could name, Republicans will use ANYTHING Democrats have done and twist things to make it look worse.
After years of "let's go Brandon", Biden Crime Family, Biden is senile Etc, they now are expecting complete subservience from Democrats equating any disagreement with treason. Forgetting that most Republican Senators sent a letter telling the Ayatollah that Obama could not make a lasting nuclear deal.
Some examples of their hypersensitivity is the Trump appointed DC judge investigating Chuck Schumer for his comments on Supreme Court Justices or the right wing outrage over the peaceful protests in Vermont that JD Vance faced. The signs, for the most part, dealt with Trump/Vance siding with Russia over Ukraine, illegal cuts to Congress approved funds, potential cuts of the safety net. The weirdest thing was many Republicans argued they were paid protesters and questioned how they knew he was there even though it was covered by local news. Like much of New England, Vermonters are politically engaged in their communities.

(4,638 posts)decorum is a bogus issue anyway. in the same class of importance as zelensky's suit (though i notice that musk seems to have found a coat and tie since then)

I love AOC and Jasmine - but this one is fire Raskin - they can be on several programs after the speech

He would be good for that. I think he'd make a good speaker, too.
I hope that AOC gets a shot at leadership soon. I think she'd make a great speaker some day, if she doesn't move on to the Senate or a cabinet position.

(2,090 posts)I love Jamie Raskin, and he'd be good at it, but I think Congress needs a fresh face who won't pull any punches.
Jamie Raskin doesn't pull any punches, but he's also played this role time and time again, and the GOP just ignores him. Jasmine Crockett has proven time and time again to flummox the GOP, and they don't know how to respond.
