President Donald Trumps purge of so-called woke initiatives as one of his first orders of business after returning to the White House in January has already filtered through hundreds of federal government websites, according to a New York Times analysis.
The Times on Friday revealed a list of banned words that came with that order from phrases like sense of belonging, all-inclusive and at risk to more innocuous terms like women, institutional, and systemic.
They all landed on Trumps ban list and while the Times noted the White Houses "rhetorical strategy" has been criticized as discriminatory, it exposes a greater hypocrisy as the president and his closest allies including tech billionaire Elon Musk have frequently portrayed themselves as champions of free speech.
So much so, that Trump signed a day-one executive order titled, Restoring Freedom of Speech and Ending Federal Censorship, that stated, Government censorship of speech is intolerable in a free society," the Times pointed out to readers.

Notes: Some terms listed with a plus sign represent combinations of words that, when used together, acknowledge transgender people, which is not in keeping with the current federal governments position that there are only two, immutable sexes. Any term collected above was included on at least one agencys list, which does not necessarily imply that other agencies are also discouraged from using it.

(29,406 posts)I confess that I have never seen/heard the term "chest feeding," and were I still working, and there was a requirement to avoid saying breast feeding your baby, I would opt for nursing your baby.
Will there be a ban on saying breast cancer, and the expectation to call it chest cancer?

(3,096 posts)my personal prediction seems to be on track with this guy.
I can't say that he's nothing to worry about because he will do plenty of damage and create untold chaos, but he will destroy himself by his own hand. Waning support as the days and months pass will end with pretty much everyone putting up resistance to the endless, always changing EO's.
Be patient. He won't last and he will be able to do little that isn't immediately reversible when his time expires in 4 years. It sucks, but we'll be able to fix it soon enough.

(24,983 posts)This is intended to restrict the range of thought, just as Orwell's Newspeak did.
And calling this restriction "Freedom of speech" is also very Orwellian, kind of like Ministry of Truth
