Talked to a good friend in Germany this morning. She couldn’t understand why our press corps, and congress ( with too few exceptions ) are not raising holy hell about our country being taken over by a Russian asset!!! Even NPR & PBS are acting like what is happening in just normal politics. WTF ? I had no answer for her. The entire Republican Party ? The majority of our press corps? Eisenhower is spinning!

Pray for a lightning bolt from God's own finger to turn the Oval Office into a smoky hole in the ground. At least they won't be able to pave over the Rose Garden if that happens.

According to him, as of mid-August, the Illichivskyi morgue of Mariupol documented 87,000 dead people. In addition, there a database of unidentified killed people is kept in the Novoazov Prosecutor’s Office and contains 26,750 entries. Bodies of these people are buried and reburied in mass graves.h
He says this number is not final and is prone to rise, as other databases likely exist in other morgues and the exhumation of corpses buried near apartment buildings where they were killed, continues. So does the exhumation of corpses from under rubble.
“If the world community had found the strength and closed the sky over [Ukraine] at the beginning of March, nothing would have happened… If the sky was closed, over 100,000 of those killed in Mariupol would be alive,” he said.
Battles for Mariupol started on 24 February and continued to 20 May, when the last Ukrainian defenders of the city surrendered to Russia. Most of the besieged city was destroyed by Russian invading forces.

Remember when 10,000 or 20,000 were dead in Gaza, there was the name calling of Joe Biden as Genocide Joe and blaming Democrats. Remember Trump called the Ukraine invasion "genius". Imagine if Biden called the Gaza War "genius" by Netanyahu, the media would cover it daily, monthly, yearly.

I don't understand why ALL the alarm bells aren't ringing, why the former presidents aren't publishing an open letter to the nation or making a collective video, why every American who isn't a MAGA cultist isn't demonstrating in the streets. Why are the vast majority of Democrats in Congress not taking actions proportional to the threat? Why are they talking about "this is all new," "let's be patient," "we don't want to act rashly," yadda yadda yadda. Why the fecklessness?

I thank Ronnie Rat Raygun for that. As I tell folks, he ended the Fairness Doctrine, and deregulated businesses. When attempts were made to make it better, by legislation like the Media Ownership and Reform Act, introduced by the late great Maurice Hinchey in 2005, T was defeated. Then I tell them that there are basically only six owners of the media in the US. And what is considered “public” broadcasting, is not even regulated in regards to programming, and public media has to rely on donations, where in Europe it is the government who pay for most of it.

Trump is not an isolationist, Trump is leaving Europe prey to Russia to force submission of Europe to Le Pen and Farage and AfD. Russia is working for expansion of American hegemony. Why would Putin support ultra nationalists in France, UK, Israel and the US, unless Putin was part of that team. (1,750 posts)No tools to control a fascist takeover. Forefathers were pretty stupid to think elected Presidents will always work the benefit of the entire nation. Too much belief in the goodness of man. The only tool is impeachment with 2/3 majority?
It needs only a few more months for the Republic to change in ways we don't want to. I will tell you that the House will vote for the Trump budget. Do you have faith in a Senate filibuster? 7 Dems to stand firm? Fetterman will break it. If filibuster succeeds, Trump will force elimination of filibuster and it will succeed.
People need to be on the streets now. If not, we are looking at a long fight for democracy, like 10 to 15 years. Young people need to be on the streets. They should set aside at least a day a week for mass protests. I have attended some protests and older people for a majority of the protests. Very few young men.

This is not referring to a Federal militia, it refers to a well-regulated State militia, presumably under the command of a state's governor, in order to defend the citizens of said state against Federal encroachment by a rogue, tyrannical president attempting to take control beyond the limits of the Constitution. This was discussed in Federalist Paper #46 and elsewhere.
The corporate media is probably keeping this tidbit from being discussed, but I anticipate that circumstances may soon require it to be brought up.

We can wait for Congress or the Judicial Branch to work things out, but by then it may be too late, and too much has already been compromised.
If the Executive Branch wants to ignore the laws of the land, then States should play the same game. Imagine if California ports decide not to enforce tariffs. Imagine if ICE agents are subdued and told not to harass our migrant workers. What if abortions remain legal in California while the Feds try to outlaw it?

Tailgunner Joe was no longer a force, but the papers and TV news were still hysterically hunting Russian agents everywhere. Richard Nixon was investigating pumpkin patches and there was a Commie in every classroom. (It was not a good time to have a furrin name, a shaky command of English, and a decidedly Eastern European accent.) Now that we have an actual Kremlin agent in the White House....?
