Joe Biden still working for you even out of Office. The SS Fairness Act checks have started to arrive.

https://www.govexec.com/pay-benefits/2025/01/biden-signs-windfall-elimination-provision-repeal-law/401967/?oref=ge-related-article

Dems, should be all over this making sure that Trump gets no credit for it at all.

Dems, please get your act together and let your constituents know that their windfall payout is because of the Democrats and Joe Biden.

My niece just received a check for about 6K. She didn't expect it because she didn't know about this act. The Dems have done a piss poor job of touting Biden's hard work on behalf of the American worker.

Check it out!

You know, this was already known when the law was passed there were retro payments going back 14 months.

It was in ALL the news outlets.

Biden had a signing ceremony and gave a speech about repeal.

I don't know where you or your niece were. The Democrats DIDN'T drop the ball just because you and your family didn't know about it.

How could you have NOT known about the repeal of WEP/GPO?

Repeal passed overwhelmingly in both houses of Congress. So Democrats cannot take full credit for passage; many Republicans supported repeal.

We have to continually correct the record because Trump is using Goebbels "Big Lie" playbook.

I do NOT trust Elon and his baby vandals. They have our SS#s and likely can find all bank accounts we have. No trust from me.

I am one of the 3.2 million recipients of the SSFA and have been involved in the movement to correct the penalties placed against government workers for about 40 years. The main thing for people to understand is that this is restitution, not a handout, to persons who paid into SSA during their working years, but also, at some point, worked in a civil service employment that did not pay into SSA. Laws were passed decades ago to penalize, with significant offsets to SSA benefits, those workers, even though they or their spouse (spousal benefits) had earned SSA credits. This is a simplified explanation because it is a complex situation and that is probably why Dems are not making a big deal about it. People, probably even on this site, who lack understanding of the big picture, make claims that people are getting SSA who didn't pay into SSA or are double dipping, and this simply is not true. Either they or their spouse did, and are now receiving benefits like anyone else who paid into the system. So I think that because of the potential for people to misunderstand the situation and then complain because they aren't receiving funds, that might be reason enough to not focus on it. Instead focus on the existing and growing serious threats to SSA. Also, for those unfamiliar with the SSFA (HR 82) this was a significant bipartisan undertaking in the House and Senate, and perhaps the last such show of bipartisanship we will see for some time.

when those of us who were penalized on our own SS paid SS taxes for at least 10 years but after the offset we were lucky to recoup our SS contributions during our entire lifespan when most SS retirees recoup all they ever paid in within less than 10 years of drawing SS. Especially if our SS-covered work was in more recent years when SS tax were higher. Plus those of us under Federal Civil Service paid Medicare taxes plus huge percentage into Civil Service so our other govt pension isn't a freebie either.

The GPO was especially unfair since SS pays substantial benefits to spouses who either never worked or worked very little while penalizing those of us (and our spouses) who worked for decades paying in a lot more.

that I will now be receiving my full benefit (and maybe compensation for the money I lost?). We'll see whether Trump and his congressional lackeys are suicidal enough to attack Social Security.

I have been WEP'd and GPO'd for almost 9 years and never thought the offsets would be repealed, but the Retiree Fed union NARFE was relentless and finally succeeded.

But the repeal would have never passed if it had not gotten through last year when we had more Dems in Congress and Senate and an Administration that wanted to enhance, not cut SS.

Haven't gotten any backpay yet from my own SS and had to file new claim back in January to get something from spouse's SS back in January but haven't heard anything so far. Hopefully will hear soon and start getting SOMETHING from SS each month since after age 65 they have withheld all of my SS after taking out for Medicare Premium plus I still owed Medicare as SS wasn't even enough to cover the $185 per month for Medicare.
