You can file a formal demand for access to your personal data obtained by DOGE

U.S. Representative Jamie Raskin is encouraging all U.S. citizens to join him this week in filing formal demands for access to their personal data obtained by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and Elon Musk.

The U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia has issued an injunction commanding DOGE to comply with citizen requests under the Freedom of Information Act. This law encompasses the Federal Privacy Act of 1974, which entitles any citizen to access personal information held in any U.S. government records system.

Citizens need only fill out the form and mail it in to DOGE. This newly recognized federal agency, which has been systematically accessing government computer data systems, now has an obligation to respond to specific information demands from any of the 340 million U.S. citizens who exercise their legal right to defend their privacy and establish the security of their private information.

I don't trust these people. Even though they have my information already and I know they have it, would I be bringing unwanted attention to myself? My biggest concern is my Social Security is disability and I am still a couple of years away from regular Social Security. Would they come after me as being part of the "waste & abuse".

I know I have one based on the file of an organization I was in, in a leadership capacity at the time. The threat of increased scrutiny was express for those requesting a copy of their files.

I trust these guys left than I trusted the FBI on the 70s.

I haven't decided yet about requesting my files from DOGE

I know of it's existence, I just never bothered to ask to see it.

Please think long & hard about your DOGE files, in case it can be used against you.

the deal was that if you requested a copy of your FBI file - and they didn't have one, they would start one on you. I've seen the files of the national organization for which I played a leadership role (I was in that role when the organization requested a copy of its files). The files are still online -they are amusing in that they were actively tracking historical leaders of the org, some of whom had been dead for at least a century. But - I saw no gain in poking that particular beast, at the time.

And as vindictive as Musk/Trump are, at the moment I'm not inclined to poke this one. That's not to say I wouldn't engage in actions that might bring me to their attention - I can afford it more than most. I'm retired without active medical needs - so imprisonment would be easier for me than if it interrupted a job or medical care. I'm an attorney, so legal costs would be lower for me (either pro se, or a blended representation). But there would need to be some tangible gain for me to put my liberty/retaliatory mindset coupled with access to financial records on the line.

especially since you need to provide your "wet" signature twice, but I am already
receiving SS and have decided that I will send in the form and hope for the best.
I am somewhat conflicted about whether I should insert a separate 'fuck you assholes' page with it, however. .

... I don't think it will slow anything down. It'll just pile up in the USAID shredder-and-burn-bag room.
