(3,931 posts)I read that too, and also that the shooter's mother was a teacher at the school and that his name was Ryan Lanza. Just saying I take nothing as fact until confirmed a number of times.

Perhaps we should wait until we actually know something before diagnosing this guy and his motives (or lack thereof).

(5,179 posts)Many many people are traumatized in childhood and do not go on to hurt others. We've been talking about the motives behind these shootings since Columbine. No two are quite the same.
I think most sensible people here know the best way to prevent mass shootings, but I'm not going to turn this thread into that.
I just think that, even if a motive is found, it won't ultimately be helpful.

(4,188 posts)I'm pretty sure it was Paul Vance who I heard say that. (State Police spokesman). Further found that his mother was never employed or engaged full-time, but may have been a part-time volunteer at some point in the last several years. It was not recent, however.
