BREAKING: Senate Democrats have the votes to block the Republican Continuing Resolution, which was loaded with poison pills. Sen. Schumer says the Democratic caucus is unified on a clean short term resolution that would keep current funding through April 11.

Or, maybe listened to what the Dem leaders were saying.

I have good reason to have faith in people who've already fought republicans in often years long elections and won, many repeatedly. That's a no-brainer for me.

(17,072 posts)When they start seeing a lot more of this instead of lectures from leadership about too many phone calls and how they can't do anything because they're in the minority. Yeah we know. Use all the tools you can then be loud about it whip all your members to vote against the condemnation of the one member who had an effective protest against the Trump propaganda show and organize a united one next time.
Doing the everyday legislative work isn't enough if you can't find ways to let people know about it.

(93,312 posts)...but believing The Hill is quite another thing that I'd caution against any day of the week when it comes to Democrats.
They didn't have shit to run with on that report and buried the lede which said a decision hadn't been made.
There was a caucus meeting and a decision was made.
None of that occurred in the minds of Hill editors who gaslighted people here today. They just wanted the clickbait which was win-win for them.

(8,710 posts)bill as well. Before the vote last night, many thought that if Democrats in the House were united and got few defections, then the Senate was fairly likely to stand strong and vote against it as well. A bunch of Hose Democrats voting for it would have made it harder for Senate Dems to justify voting against it. So for all the heat Jeffries has taken here recently, he deserves big kudos for holding his caucus together on this (with only 1 defection which ended up not making a difference). That said, the Phone Calls certainly couldn't have hurt and may have helped allay the concerns of a few who were the most likely to be wavering.

Funding the government should be a bipartisan effort. But Republicans chose a partisan path, drafting their Continuing Resolution without any input from Congressional Democrats.Because of that, Republicans do not have the votes in the Senate to pass the House CR.Our caucus is unified on a clean 30-day CR that will keep the government open and give Congress time to negotiate bipartisan legislation that can pass. We should vote on that.

(snip)
Martin: Republicans, starting with Trump, have made it clear they're going to blame the Democrats for shutting down the government if that happens. What are the arguments for voting against it?
Senator Coons: President Trump and Elon Musk are already shutting down the government for the time he's been president now just over 50 days. They have torn through agency after agency. A government shutdown is already underway and it's being done piecemeal, without planning, without any kindness or decency to folks who've served as veterans and helped keep our nation safe and help run our Social Security agency. So first, the argument for not giving President Trump and Elon Musk more power to do more bad, to move money around at will, to shut down more organizations and to give it our vote.

(12,663 posts)It doesn't matter what's in the CR. Trump's executive branch will shut down what he doesn't like and do whatever the fuck he wants to do. As far as I'm concerned, the only thing that shouldn't be blocked is a CR with a "sense of the Senate" statement calling out the Executive Branch's lawlessness and making it clear that unless there is a reversal the only vote any member of the House or Senate who cares about restoring the constitutional order will be casting is "Present."
I dread the fallout of a shut down, but the pretense that our government can continue with this level of lawlessness must somehow end.

(8,710 posts)be agreeing to that by providing the votes to pass. If the Republicans don't pass it, then there is a shutdown. So the Democrats are basically setting up a situation of either you allow us in on the negotiations for a better CR in the next 30 days or we shut down the government. Worst case scenario is they renege on the negotiations, but even if they did that, the Dems still get clean CR for an extra month without all the extra bad things the Republicans have tried to add to it.
