I order things sometimes from delivery services. More often than not, the people who deliver for these companies are people for whom English is their second language. They are people willing to learn our language, drive at all hours in all types of weather, to provide a service to people privileged enough to afford it. I am not a person who considers myself religious, but I have found myself lately and regularly praying that they are able to escape the attention of this monstrous administration, and I am in awe of their courage in the face of this utter bullshit.

(1,476 posts)I make it a point these days to greet them on the porch and have whatever limited conversation we can have. We are by no means well-off but I tip as generously as I can and greet them with a smile. Its not nearly enough but its all I can do. Thank you for posting your thoughts. Youre not alone in the darkness.
I am by no means well-off, either. I am privileged enough to have wonderful friends who help me when I need help, and I love people. I've never met people so engaging and friendly as the people who have delivered groceries to my door. ❤️

(1,248 posts)Every immigrant I encounter is someone I admire. Working hard to improve the lives of themselves and their families.
BUT
every once in awhile you encounter a scammer.
Classic car troubles, no speak english, offers up fake gold jewelry for money.
Took great pleasure telling him he makes immigrants look bad and he was pretty stupid to pull such an obvious BS.
Have to admit I worry about those I personally know about the days to come.

(36 posts)So I guess I am fortunate in that regard, too. Except a local white-supremacist neighbor; lifelong SSDI recipient who never worked a day in his life, and also was incarcerated for feloiy threats against a local judge.

It's free, it's liberating, it's emotionally uplifting and it brings you closer to another human being.
Oh and yea, as you all have witnessed, it works miracles. Trust me on that!!!

Here's a true story. I swear to God this happened. About 8 yrs ago I was a new widow. Replete with asthma, allergies and panic attacks to boot. Went short distance to local grocery store. When I came out, keys in hand, I loaded my groceries in the trunk , got in the car and drove off. I thought I did good, with no panic attack. When I got home, was unloading stuff and someone drove in my driveway. Man and woman get out and come to my porch and handed me my purse, which I had left in the cart in the parking lot! Yes, they were Mexican. They seen what I did, got my purse and had followed me home. I wept, pulled out a twenty dollar bill, gave them both a big hug and thanked them profusely.
Moral of my story is never underestimate the kindness of people. There is good in all people.
on Edit: but NOT Trump and his cabal!
I stress a lot and probably way too much. People have always been there for me, and I just want to be one of those people,. ❤️
