The CR just passed by House Uglicans is a Putin-style "peace treaty" -- Dems have to surrender before negotiations begin
or Uglicans won't "work" with them.
Uglicans are crowing that "Dems are screwed", that the public will blame them if they don't pass this bill and the gov't shuts down. I don't think all of the public is that dumb. They can see that the Uglicans have thrown down a worthlessly bad bill and skipped town, trying to claim that there's not time to fix things if Dems don't vote for the poison pill bill. There are plenty of people out there who can see that the Uglican decision to leave early is the ULTIMATE cause of any shutdown. If Dems remain close to DC and say "we're here to negotiate as soon as the R's show up, having taken an early vacation before they finished their job" it may not sway all of the voters, or even a majority, but their position, I believe, is stronger than Turnip or Moses wants to believe. The more Dems repeat their version (and they should repeat it several times a day) the more people will come to see the Uglican moves as a blatant attempt to avoid blame for their own failures.
Ever notice that the gov't only shuts down when R's control the Congress ??
