DJIA down 1%+ already today.

So, it seems like it's not recovering from the insults it has already suffered from the Trump fiscal nonsense.

Looks like we might be in for a long, ugly period of time.

I'm not a stock market investor in any way. Never have been. I've always invested in real estate in my small way, and that has worked pretty well for me. that was my father's advice. "Buy real estate, son. Buy your first house as soon as you can. Live in it. Let it increase in value. Work on it yourself."

So, that's what I did. Sold that first house and bought another. Sold that one and bought another. Each time, the new house cost less than the house I sold. Never refinanced any of them. Paid off the mortgages. Now I'm old and retired. I still have a paid-off house. I like that.

OMG, if that had happened during a dem president's first few months in office the whole country would be talking impeachment.

"Don't worry, " Trump says. "Don't pay any attention to the stock market," Trump said. I can see why he said that.

In the last 10 years, I have tripled my money and have used dividends to pay all of my utilities.
In the 80s when the market crashed, I just waited it out. My roommate got a settlement for $90K and put most of it in the highest ranked stock fund. When it crashed he pulled what was left, about half out. I just left mine alone and it all came back within a year. Only invest what you can afford to lose. Don't buy on exuberance and don't sell on fear.

I insisted that we take dh's retirement draw for the year on Jan 2, instead of spacing it out each month. A good portion of his funds are in as safe of a place as they can be, and we will ride it out. I'm still working full time.

That's all the economy is, people spending their money. If consumer spending falls, so will the economy. We're starting to see it fall as people are nervous and trying to save.

All the rest of the data is mumbo jumbo, the economy does well when regular people are spending, it contracts when they aren't.

it took me longer than it should have to know what DJIA is...but, yeah, it isn't recovering, probably because the chaos will continue for at least 4 more years. We've got a toddler mashing buttons at random.
