Dem Sen Heard Yelling: 'This Will Not Be A Normal Shutdown'

https://talkingpointsmemo.com/live-blog/senate-democrats-cr-republicans

One senator, who was identified by reporters at other outlets as Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), was heard shouting at her colleagues from inside the meeting room that they are “complicit in the shutdown,” and imploring them to recognize that this “will not be a normal shutdown.”

“The VA will not be functioning,” the senator said. “The various NIH trials … will be shut down.”

“He will declare a state of emergency,” the senator told her colleagues, seemingly referring to a potential action President Trump might take if Congress does not pass a spending bill before the government runs out of funding midnight Friday.

Pull it off quick and let it all collapse quickly, exposing the underlying infection while people are still paying attention and not all the pieces are in place, or pull it off slow, allowing the infection to fester until everyone is too exhausted to fight and all the pieces are in place for it to take over.

we must stop fearing a "possible shutdown". it is already upon us. This is the only big leverage we have at the moment, and that is only because the media will pay no attention until they perceive an "official shutdown".

There is zero point in negotiating with Republicans at this point. We should be placing our objectives and demands in front of the media and the American people and proceeding as if the full shutdown is already underway.

This is the only course that makes any sense. Capitulating with what Trump and the Republicans want to do places us fully into authoritarian mode.

And to hell with Gillibrand and Fetterman. Let Trump declare state of emergency and martial law. How is that any worse than letting Trump have zero limits under this GOP bill?

Some people will wake up when Trump declares martial law. The sooner the better.

She's voting for an extension of the 2017 Jobs and Tax cut act.

The one that put a cap on the SALT deduction.

During the TEA Party years - their politicians trembled at the sight or sound of them. She doesn't fear her voters. Now is a good time for the grass roots to find a primary challenger.

She doesn't get it. I'm 100% onboard with a shut down. We are at least 50% of the way there.

I've already written an OP on this. It's not realistic, feasible or tolerable.
More importantly it is impossible to enact martial law on a nation of 365 million people over 300,000 sq mi. Just not realistic...even if you count militia groups.
Esp so if you consider a significant portion of active duty military would not participate in an domestic conflict on US soil.

It's the Republicans watch. They own this. Democrats have very few buttons to push. This is a big one. We, the public are already experiencing suffering at the hands of the Felon and his administration. Don't buckle. The Republicans doubt your fortitude, prove them wrong. Everybody gets hurt in a fight which is why most don't want to fight and they are counting on that fear.
The news is superficially covering this administration and there actions. Let them try to ignore this. Not gonna happen.
