…and we’ll have no choice but to let that pass, too?

What about a CR that dissolves our republic and establishes a monarchy?

Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget, nonprofit, nonpartisan, founded by one Dem and one Repuke.

Every federal agency has a shutdown plan. Essential services continue.

I read quite a bit of this site and didn't see anything that led me to believe that trump can do what you question: " eliminate programs, people, transfer trillions of SS money to a private hedge fund…?"

Sanders will vote no and says that the only way Trump could get way more out of control only if people don’t resist - I’m not sure people can resist fast enough to stop what Trump/Musk could do if they don’t have a budget in place that limits them somewhat. Also if the government shuts down the courts will - the Dem lawsuits may stall.

If government were to shut down what happens to all of the federal workers who were ordered reinstated?

Which is more than they are getting now.
Schumer forgets that government shutdowns are not total shutdowns.
Another CR will go into the hopper next week. But now, all those people who just wanted "waste and fraud" fixed, will suddenly get panicked about a shut down rather being "uncomfortable" over reconstructive dismantlement, and it will bring what Project 2025 and Doge is doing into perspective.
Oh, Courts don't close during a shutdown. There can still be all sorts of filings and rulings.
