Some DC insider types are saying Schumer avoided a political trap - link

Former Dem Congressional staffer:

Politico Capitol chief reporter:

I realize the instinct is "oppose, oppose, oppose" but the argument about not empowering DOGE seems especially persuasive to me. From what I've read, the governmental procedures for dealing with shutdowns would give someone like Musk huge powers to decide who does and doesn't work in DC. And best of all from the Republican perspective- they would get to blame it on the Dems.

1. There are no other fights to pick. They don't need a single Dem vote to pass their reconciliation budget.

They will destroy the country with that budget bill and Schumer just gave them his blessing today.

Otherwise, the CR stalls (unless the Senate Democrats lift their filibusters).

Not an ounce of the ruthlessness the other side has mastered and is totally comfortable with. We are doormats. It’s embarrassing.

13. I'm all for ruthlessness- just not the briar patch variety. Don't just be a bull charging at the red cape

Republicans put that cape there hoping we would charge at it.

He’s going to bend the next time something like this happens. Nobody should have any faith in his leadership.

Whenever we cave to Republicans or give them a bit of what they want or formulate plans that give up a bit of our goals just so they can be perceived as bipartisan...how many times have we been told our outrage is misplaced? How many times have we been told we just don't understand the system?

Well folks, playing a compromising game with a dishonest opponent who care little for anything other than power has landed us right where we are in this moment.

If these so called political experts are correct, I'll gladly eat my words, but history doesn't bode well for compromise with authoritarians and, make no mistake , that's what we are dealing with presently.

People, the people of this country, are outraged...they are crying out for leadership & for signs of resistance from their elected officials. This isn't it

spend hours marching to the podium one by one and lying to get their points across. Not suggesting that dems lie. But dems should be allowed to go on the record why they won't vote for the CR...detailed explanation of the poison pills. They can vote against the bill but first barely fail to block debate and a vote. Make the best of a bad situation. We'll get blamed for everything everywhere all at once anyway.
