(9,891 posts)Maybe I was at some of those protests. I'm a US citizen all the way back to our founding as one of my forebears said something like "Give me liberty or give me death". I kinda take that seriously. How could you not when your ancestor did. Hard to live up to that but hey at least I take it seriously. I didn't do any bidding of any puppet master, I just saw a lot of civilians getting killed. The ROE the Israelis use allows for way more collateral damage than we the US use. Or at least used to. Things have changed ya know. Like people getting deported for their political view. I'll be honest, I look kinda mexican. My little brother calls me "Chavez". I got my DL but I dont tend to carry around my birth certificate. You going to say I fucked around and found out if they deport me? I will always be faithful in those that defend freedom. I protested. I will take whatever fuck around and find out and it will always be worth it.

Consider this in rethinking what you posted:
noun 'd(y)oōəl 'loiəltē
: loyalty to two separate interests that potentially conflict with each other, leading to a conflict of interest
WHEN ITS ANTISEMITIC:
Dual loyalty is a bigoted trope used to cast Jews as the other. For example, it becomes antisemitic when an American Jews connection to Israel is scrutinized to the point of questioning his or her trustworthiness or loyalty to the United States.

(6,274 posts)They should not be confused, yet you are. Many Israelis don't support their govt's actions. Just like Americans and Trump.
Beastly Boy
(13,283 posts)The poster I replied to used the term "pro-Israel lobby", making no such distinctions as you are making, and thus presuming that all of them direct "our tax dollars" (a fallacy on top of guilt by association) towards "propping up a right wing genocidal regime".
Once again, I am pro-Israel, I contribute my honestly earned dollars and no one else-s tax dollars to pro-Israel lobby, to lobby for Israel, which includes, as you mentioned, many Israelis who don't support their government's actions.
Does this make me anti-American any more than my contributions to World Central Kitchen?
58Sunliner
(6,274 posts)So do the lobbyists who are after our tax dollars. Have a nice day.
Beastly Boy
(13,283 posts)Here is what I replied to:"The pro-Israel lobby is anti-American, as it directs our tax dollars towards propping up a right wing genocidal regime." The assumption here is that lobbying for Israel is anti-American. And the presumption here, wrapped in incendiary rhetoric and as deviod of substance as it is categorical, is that the Israel lobby, whatever it is made up of, is after our tax dollars to fund Netanyahu's regime, not Israel as a liberal democraric state.
Naturally, as a supporter of Israel, I took offense to this load of garbage, and I replied accordingly and appropriately.
In this context, the end portion of my post which includes the sentence that displeased you, reads as follows:
"Once again, I am pro-Israel, I contribute my honestly earned dollars and no one else-s tax dollars to pro-Israel lobby, to lobby for Israel, which includes, as you mentioned, many Israelis who don't support their government's actions.
Does this make me anti-American any more than my contributions to World Central Kitchen?"
You presumed, I am guessing, that my reference to my contributions to causes other than Israel creates a strawman, which, I am guessing, is deemed by you to be out of context (a lot of guessing here because you are, deliberately or unintentionally, being rather cryptic). Well, the context is right here for you to see, and my post illustrates the absurdity of the statement I originally replied to. It was addressed to you because you inserted yourself in the thread, no other reason.
If you think you are unwilling or unable to sustain a convincing argument, by all means, have a nice day.
58Sunliner
(6,274 posts)lobbyists are supporting the genocide by the absence of demands and ignoring the reality of what the govt is doing. Comparing the Israeli govt to the world kitchen, a charity that they bombed and killed workers, is ludicrous.

(13,283 posts)Last edited Mon Mar 17, 2025, 12:07 AM - Edit history (1)
Now, unless you specify that "genocide" as you use the term with respect to Israel is not meant to describe a factual condition in Gaza, or that the lobby groups in question do not specifically petition to bomb Gazan civilians, or that absence of demands on Israeli government within Israel or in diaspora is a lame fantasy, or that only a tiny part of your taxpayer dollars ends up in Gaza, or that you never bothered to inquire about the facts pertaining to the above, or if you did, you are ignoring them, then pretending that this is a serious conversation is ludicrous.

(22,456 posts)Primaries are not the general election, so not voting for Biden in the primary did not affect trump's success in the general election at all.
In fact, the number of Arab-Americans who witheld their primary vote from Biden didn't even stop Biden from getting the nomination.
It was indeed just an act of protest to get media attention to let Biden know how important the issue was to them, and it also sparked the beginning of Biden's turn-around on sending weapons to netanyahu.

(96,878 posts)Last November, the majority voted Democrat, except at the top of the ticket. President Trump came to Dearborn looking for votes and it worked. He won the city and took Michigan in a startling reversal for Democrats.
Snip
Trump won 42% of the vote in Dearborn, with Harris receiving 36%. Green Party and pro-ceasefire candidate Jill Stein received 18% more than any other place in Michigan, Detroit Public Radio reported.
Abouali says the results show how angry Dearborn was at the Biden-Harris White House, mostly over its support for Israel's actions in the Gaza Strip. The community voted for Trump, despite the president's past action in banning travel from some majority Muslim countries and worries about his proposal to deport millions of immigrants.
https://www.cbsnews.com/news/arab-american-voters-trump-dearborn-michigan-israel-biden-harris/
Democrats lost 22,000 votes in Michigans heavily Arab American cities
The numbers also show Trump made small gains about 9,000 votes across those areas, suggesting Harriss loss there is more attributable to Arab Americans either not voting or casting ballots for third-party candidates.
Support for Democrats also fell in seven precincts around the country with significant Arab American or Muslim populations, according to data compiled by the Arab American Institute. It found a combined drop in the seven precincts, from about 4,900 votes in 2020 to just 3,400 this election.
The drop in Democratic support in Hamtramck, Dearborn and Dearborn Heights three Michigan cities with the nations largest Arab American and Muslim populations per capita represent nearly 27% of the 81,000-vote difference between Harris and Donald Trumps tallies in the state.

(60,854 posts)One was the ceasefire that started in January. The agreement was essentially the framework that the Biden team put together in May 2024, when both Netanyahu were not ready to agree.
The election results itself likely had an impact with the far left suddenly realizing that rather than a protest vote showing Biden/Harris their anger, they had to consider what lies in the future.
Since Trump was elected, it is very clear that even peaceful protests that break no laws could subject protesters to extreme punishment. For American born students, it could lead to being expelled because of the way universities were targeted by Congresspeople like Stefanick and now the whole Trump administration.
There were protests in NYC over the effort to report a green card holder, with an 8 months pregnant American wife. These protests happen even as Trump administration people argue that protests against the government are, in and of themselves, against the law. These people are protesting in the face of personal consequences.
There were some protesters arrested or disciplined by their schools last year, but for the most part they were people who stepped across the line into actions that were seen as illegal.
