DOD _removed_ Medal of Honor Monday page for Charles Calvin Rogers, highest-ranking black recipient. URL now "deimedal"

Bluesky post from MSNBC columnist and Obama official Brandon Friedman:

This is blood-boiling. Charles Rogers was awarded the Medal of Honor in Vietnam after being wounded three times leading the defense of a position.

Google his name and the entry below comes up. When you click, you'll see the page has been deleted and the URL changed to include "DEI medal."

Brandon Friedman (@brandonfriedman.bsky.social) 2025-03-16T02:25:33.389Z

This is the Web Archive copy of the page from earlier this month:

Note the second part of that URL, the DOD URL:

I don't have the words to fully capture what I'm feeling. Raging, Tearful, Shame, Disgust, More Rage. Sick.

How can this fucking be.

They actually are out to erase all non-white accomplishments and fire all non-white people because they all must be DEI.

On Edit: I never could get my head around what it meant to purge DEI. I'm finally getting it.

Instead of embracing diversity they are actually out to enforce homogeneity

Instead of striving for equity in treatment they are out to enforce inequity

Instead of striving to ensure all Americans are included at all levels regardless of race or gender they are out to enforce exclusion of those who are not white or not biological males from whatever roles they deem they don't belong in.

Silly me. Should have caught on sooner.

I haven't found another "Medal of Honor Monday" page that is that old (November 1, 2021).

Of course it was NOT a "DEI Medal." It was presented to him by President Richard Nixon, so a long time before "DEI" came on the scene.

The article opens with:

From the 1950's to the 1980's, a lot changed in America and abroad, and Army Maj. Gen. Charles Calvin Rogers served through all of it. As a Black man, he worked for gender and race equality while in the service. But he's perhaps most well-known for his leadership during an intense battle in Vietnam, which earned him the Medal of Honor.

I think they are literally purging equality as a value from all writings of any kind.

"All men are created equal" in the Declaration of Independence is probably on the chopping block. And I think equal shows up a few times in the constitution too.

They are listed in order, most recent first at this link.

https://www.defense.gov/Search-Results/Tag/135176/

I went back, starting on Page 1, to Page 17 where the Nov. 1, 2021 listing for Charles Calvin Rogers should be. It's missing there, too. No rhyme or reason why. In those 17 pages I looked at, there were 8 black recipients listed and several hispanic and asian recipients. I guess maybe you could consider some of those "DEI" medals because some were awarded after an investigation in the '90s when it was determined that some worthy people had been denied the Medal of Honor because of racism, and medals were awarded at that point by President Clinton. But Rogers was presented the medal by Nixon, long before that. In no way was it "DEI."

It's just like a lot of other actions by DOGE. Dumb and unfathomable.

The very first "Medal of Honor Monday" listed is Army Pvt. Barney Hajiro, a Japanese-American, on Oct. 22, 2018.

This isn't just about specific programs or trainings labeled DEI. They are purging diversity as a value, equality and equity as values, and inclusion and tolerance as values. They are attacking them as separate concepts. Hence, the directive to remove an "All Are Welcome" sign from a classroom. That is no longer an American value. The concept that All Are Welcome in our public schools is now a Political Opinion over which there is disagreement so it cannot be promoted (although the 10 commandments is fine, not a promotion of a specific religion by a public institution).

We are dealing with serious Christian Nationalists and White Supremists, homophobics, transphobics, and white men who have enormous contempt for women.

https://www.csus.edu/news/newsroom/stories/2025/2/black-voter-project.html

“If you want to answer the really tough questions about voter turnout and vote choice, enthusiasm and apathy, you need to have the data,” Towler said. “Using data for other groups that includes only a small sample of Black folks and then extrapolating those answers has a lot of problems.”

Such extrapolation led to talk among political pundits and the media about Black men moving away from the Democratic Party and voting for Trump. Towler’s survey, however, shows that wasn’t the case.

Support for Kamala Harris among Black men increased by 24% over time, the survey found, with 82% of Black men voting for Harris on Election Day. Support for Trump, however, dropped to 17%, matching 2020 exit polls.

Other findings include:

-Black support for Harris in 2024 was similar to that of Joe Biden in 2020, with 86% of Black voters choosing Harris compared to 12% for Trump.
-Most Black voters, 57%, voted in person.
-Black voters voted Democratic down the ballot, 72%, with 13% splitting the ticket.
-The majority of Black voters disapprove of mass deportation.
