The deposit is only 2 days late, so I'm trying not to panic, but the fact that the website isn't allowing login is pretty concerning.
Update: My bank has my SSN payment! It's currently in "pending" status, but it's there. Maybe I was concerned for no reason, but things being as they are, I'm not embarrassed at all.

(38,639 posts)When it is down, there a screen that so shows the hours.
I checked it a few days ago when a friend insisted the only access was between 1:00 am and 4:15 PM. (They reversed the hours). I visited it at 1:09 am, and the come back later screen was up. It isn't up now.

(7,952 posts)I get if they have live chat support with set hours, but just looking up your account shouldn't be limited.

They have a large team of retirement-age IT staff massaging and maintaining it on a daily basis with limited younger-generation backup as it is an archaic language. Downtimes aren't about the website as much as they are backing up and pressure washing those monster databases that contain and present your account information.
Martin O'Malley (fmr Gov-MD and head of SSA under Biden) was on one of the news shows last week talking about this - if a swath of these IT people take the early retirement "buyout" and leave, they are going to be in a world of hurt.

(3,343 posts)Part of their system is likely antiquated and requires scheduled downtime for maintenance.
RandomNumbers
(19,156 posts)But for one with the size and antiquity of the SS system, downtimes are probably longer than they would be for most systems.
That said ... I wonder exactly what is happening during downtimes of the SS system, these days.

(42 posts)I don't usually have to worry about the SSA website and SSI but serious question, why does it have hours at all.
Seriously, its a website. You should be able to track payments and account information 24/7

(4,405 posts)When the database of information is undergoing maintenance, then the website is useless. Shutting down is preferable to error messages on screen.

I sure if and when SSA doesn't pay SS because of Musk that there will be an avalanche of posts about it and not just 1.

(53,214 posts)I'm trying not to dwell on it too much as there isn't a whole lot I can do. Meanwhile, I am imagining the nationwide chaos if tens of millions of Americans don't get their Social Security payments.
Too many live paycheck to paycheck with nothing to spare. It was like that for me until the last few years when the stimulus checks helped me get ahead a bit. Now with that little cushion, I am not inclined to freak out over unexpected medical expenses.

(8,381 posts)I was affected by the WEP payments (deductions for gov employees that didn't pay into SS). My old payment amount shows up as my last payment. And my new amount (almost double what I've been receiving) shows up as my adjusted payment. I also received a onetime payment (almost $7000) for back WEP payments.
Just wanted to offer a glimmer of hope.

(7,359 posts)I thought there was something that I read where unless you had switched over to the login.gov method you wouldn't be able to log into Medicare or social security or pretty much anything with your normal login information. And I thought it was in March that the turnover was supposed to happen. I'm just wondering if maybe that's the issue?

some get it on the 1st, some on the 3rd and everyone else on the 2nd , 3rd or fourth Wednesday of the month .
You say yours is two days late (Friday ? )
What day do you normally get it ?

That's what I read. I have a couple years before I can sign up, so I am not speaking from experience. I am scared shitless I won't be able to get it in a couple years though.
Fucking asshole Musk.

(13,480 posts)In terms of payment dates, last year my deposits were mostly on the 9th of the month. This year, theyve mostly been on the 12th. I have no clue why since I would think that the deposits are computer generated and automated.

(7,790 posts)will take the site offline with a message like the one you received. Usually... tho not always... it would say "Down for Maintenance" but maybe DOGE doesn't want you to know it's doing maintenance at that moment! I absolutely do not trust musk or any of his teenage minions digging their hands into our personal, private records. And hindrances such as the "no go" screen would have my mind going in that direction at the very first.

(24,486 posts)This is the middle of March and everybody I've read of here has gotten their March SS checks. I received mine on 17 February and the site says my checks get delivered on the 3rd of the month. Now my checks have been deposited early if the 3rd falls on a weekend or holiday, but never late although I'm sure that with all the millions of checks that go out each month and some of them are bound to be late for one reason or another that have nothing to do with Musk.

(207 posts)I worked for SSA years ago (quit to be a stay at home mom). If a an inquiry came from a member of Congress management would give it high priority.Things may be different now but it is worth a try. The people I worked with at SSA were the most conscientious people I have ever worked with. Try going in to your local SSA office first and if you are not satisfied call your representatives office. It was surprising how much they cared about a single vote.
