With many in the party saying publicly that their leaders should do more to stand up to President Donald Trump, Democrats and Democratic-aligned independents say, 57% to 42%, that Democrats should mainly work to stop the Republican agenda, rather than working with the GOP majority to get some Democratic ideas into legislation.
Democratic-aligned adults say, 52% to 48%, that the leadership of the Democratic Party is currently taking the party in the wrong direction. Thats another shift from eight years ago, when views on this metric were largely positive.
Ocasio Cortezs stock in the party is especially high among those who describe themselves as liberal and those younger than 45, with roughly 1 in 6 within each of those groups calling her emblematic of the partys values. No Democratic leader polled in the double digits among older adults or moderates on this metric.

(1,578 posts)Really fight! I am a senior citizen and have been a Democrat all my life, but this is not the time to be civil. We need to take the gloves off and take the fight to them. Our very democracy is in peril. We wake up every day to a new affront to our democracy and everything it has stood for in nearly 250 years. We need to go bold, and never accept defeat. This is a critical time for the USA.

(113,586 posts)I'm not saying we should have let it close (I remain on the fence), but I damn well think we should have had a firebrand messaging WHY we allowed the CR to get a vote and ultimately pass--and not Schumer's inane NYT opinion piece days before. Yeah, that's some top-flight messaging, there--especially after smiling photos of him with Trump appear in the press together.

(577 posts)The finding was that DEMOCRATIC voters want the party to stop working in a bipartisan fashion and Democrats want the party to OPPOSE the Trump agenda much harder.
No more 10 Democratic Senators supporting the Trump budget including the Democratic Senate leader.

Gavin Newsom did not appreciate Elizabeth Warren's 'wine cave' swipe at Pete Buttigieg
https://www.sfgate.com/politics/article/Pete-Buttigieg-wine-Elizabeth-Warren-Gavin-Newsom-14921735.php
California Governor Gavin Newsom came to the defense of South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg and his recent Napa "wine cave" fundraiser after the 2020 presidential hopeful was attacked by Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren during the sixth Democratic presidential debate Thursday night.
Warren criticized Buttigieg for his Sunday night fundraiser at Hall Wines in St. Helena, which was attended by several wealthy Bay Area Democrats. We made the decision many years ago that rich people in smoke-filled rooms would not pick the next president of the United States, she said. Billionaires in wine caves should not pick the president of the United States.
Buttigieg responded by stating he was the only person on the debate stage who is not a millionaire or billionaire, and criticized Warren for her own large donations. "This is the problem with issuing purity tests you yourself cannot pass," he told her.
The mayor gained a defender after the debate in Gavin Newsom, whose business empire included a number of wineries. "Its my business, its how I started, he told HuffPost after the debate. Its a point of pride. Its one of Americas great exports. I dont know that its helpful to have those kinds of debates.

(1,857 posts)The Democratic Party gave us Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. Democratic Presidents always pull us out of recessions and depressions created by Republican Presidents. Democrats have a larger tent and favor the underdog. Republicans have always sided with the rich. Truman was calling Republicans the party of the rich back in the '40s. Nothing has changed. Most Americans are not super wealthy. Why on Earth would they vote for the Republican Party, which does nothing for them? Voting against your own self interest is stupid.
Democrats need to speak in simple terms that the uneducated masses can understand. Hit them with the facts and fight back for crying out loud!

Democrats in Congress receive lowest approval rating in Quinnipiac poll history

IMHO, what is skewed incorrectly is the comparison between Democrats and Republicans. The missing link I believe is that Trump destroyed the Republican Party singlehandedly and remains their leader. The polls reflect a dissatisfaction with politicians which allowed a demagogue to win in 2016.
What were the conditions that led to that coup, so to speak? At the time, it was all bets on GWBush's brother Jeb who would be the likely candidate. That fell apart pretty quickly and so did the others....made for shocking TV.
GW Bush had unfavorable numbers, and his efforts to work with Kennedy on immigration at the time fell apart because his constituents believed the "other" was a reason they were doing poorly economically. His tax cuts helped his rich friends, and his rich friends caused a bank collapse.
As a political party, Democrat's vulnerability was noticeable under Obama when he was elected in 2008, to when Donald Trump was elected in 2016. We lost a total of 15 state house chambers, 14 state senate chambers, 960 state legislative seats, 10 governorships, 62 seats in Congress, and 11 seats in the Senate.
Demagogues can take hold when the government does not deliver policies for the masses that are meaningful.
Some like to blame the Republicans for everything Democrats fail to deliver on and that is a mistake. The polls reflect they do not accept that, not at all.
