Yes it has to do with the CR. 2013 Democratic House members & 37 Democratic Senate members stood up with a resounding NO & said this is bad for the American people. They were willing to go to the matt & fight for us & for that I applaud them. Then at the last minute 10 Senate Dems decided we know what's best for the party & the American people & kneecapped us to pass the CR.
Our poll numbers are worse than trumps & musks! & they are getting worse because of 10 Senate Democrats. We have no leverage now. for the next six months we are going to be Like Moses in the desert. Which brings us to September, Will we be kneecapped again?
I picture these 10 Democratic Senators and I can hear them plain as day. "Thank you sir, may I please have another".
We need a Change in the Democratic Senate leadership and we need it now.

(9,614 posts)... our leadership IS letting us down.
There is no coheisve plan. No stated strategy.
I'm willing to hear them out, but I need to hear something besides "well, it would be worse the other way."
So? If not THIS, then WHAT? If not NOW, then WHEN?
I'm willing to follow if I see some destination other than mere resignation that we are powerless.
Give us something to rally around. Something to fight for.

(3,069 posts)We should not allow them to describe themselves as centerests. In today's world, you are either with the fascists or you are opposing the fascists. We know clearly which side those 9 (plus King-I) are on.
What's more, it is a virtual certainty that if Jeffries know where Schumer was going to come down, Jeffries would be solidly with the fascists too. We have more than a "centrist" problem. We have a party leadership that is diametrically opposed to the interests of the voters they are trying to claim.
The ENTIRE leadership of both houses must go. There is nothing gained by keeping them around, and we cannot rebuild until they are out of the way.

(26,113 posts)If Democratic leaders don't stand up to protect the constitution ad their constituents, we need different representatives. The ones that stood with us are to be applauded as well as we condemn the others - thanks for that.

(12,498 posts)Of what happens going forward. There will not be another CR. The committees are finalizing their parts of the budget and then it will be put in a reconciliation bill and voted through on a simple Republican majority (of course the special April elections may throw a wrench in that).

(59,147 posts)I do not know all things but I try to understand all things. Does that mean simple majority come Sept?

(35,824 posts)Fighting over this doesnt help our message.
The gop had a win either way. They get what they want in the bill, or the government shuts downs leaving him and muskrat to further pillage with fewer checks. It would have thrown thousands more out of work which would have suited them just fine. The ppl thrown out of work wouldve been forced to leave as no one can go without pay. They dont care if the government is shutdown
its what they want anyway.
We wouldve had even less bargaining power in the end as the shutdown wore on
maybe weeks or months
These are the facts
so pleaz dont bash me for laying them out.
Im just as sad and angry as everyone else, but we have to move on.

(3,902 posts)And that can go on for a long time. During that time the courts are virtually powerless besides the fact it opens a gauntlet of emergency powers acts he could invoke. I think the fact that how quick he invoked, illegally, the Aliens Enemy Act shows how itchy of a trigger finger these fucks want a national emergency declared. Beware moving forward, they will try and do it for someone crossing the street backwards. Once he declares, legitimately, a full blown national emergency the Constitution is in ashes.

(35,824 posts)Of course we wanted to stop this terrible bill! What choices did we have? We had awful and downright scary terrible!
Personally, I think our best option is to continue to bankrupt muskrat. Orange Hitler and muskrat are integrally tied. If one fails, the other will be left to flounder.

(17,925 posts)if the CR had not passed, if the republicans would have allowed the government to just stay shut down and do even more damage to our government and democracy, if that is possible.

(4,124 posts)They keep voting Democrats...but this shows there really is little effective difference between the two parties.
The only difference that I can see is the Republican party will use the filibuster to block everything good for common people.
The Dems won't use it to prevent evil to the common people.
Effectively, only things good for the rich get through ... doesn't matter who us in charge of the senate after this vote.
W_HAMILTON
(10,435 posts)They'll learn right quick a pretty big damn difference between the two parties...
And there was going to be evil for the common people regardless. That was inevitable when they chose not to vote for Democrats. The question is, whether you want evil to impact tens of millions of people or hundreds of millions? Because that is the choice we were unfortunately forced to make here.

(26,703 posts)Hi Bill
It feels like they keep treating this as politics as usual because thats the only playbook they know. It hasn't worked in the last 9 years and it isn't working now.
"We've tried nothing - and we're all out of ideas!"
No idea how to get through to them that being 'collegial' isn't the play when they are mired in pearl clutching.

When Mcturtle said that, bipartisanship died. We have been weekend at Bernie's the idea of bipartisanship since then.

SO glad that failed.
But we're about to see it again - just with tax cuts for them instead.

(1,390 posts)There is no guarantee that shutting down government would have turned the polls around for us..In fact, it may have been much worse.
It is a shitty situation with no positive outcome either way. Schumer and friends make a tactical decision because there was really no way to win this one.
W_HAMILTON
(10,435 posts)...when the government shut down and even more people were hurt than are currently being hurt now.
They are just the "blame Democrats first" crowd and think only Democrats have agency in all this. It's so common they have a damn term for it: Murc's Law.
