They are literally saying that this man got the medal of honor because of DEI?

Why else would that have appeared in the new url? (That url was preserved in the wayback machine archive.)

heroes in a variety of fields. The reading textbooks used in California always included biographies of women, and minorities and it never occurred to me to be offended. The kids really enjoyed learning about people from their own communities who they could look up to and learn from. And the student body in CA is not majority white and hasn't been for decades. In my district white students were almost non-existent with Hispanics making up the vast majority. I loved teaching them about Cesar Chavez, for example. But we also learned about Abraham Lincoln and how he rose from such humble beginnings. I honestly don't know why this is even an issue.
