Happened to catch the end of a discussion about forcing SS applicants to visit offices or ID themselves online at the same time that offices are being closed on Jansing's show. Jeremy Peters and Jansing seemed to find the whole thing hilarious and were yucking it up with abandon, and Michael Steele even joined in. The segment ended with all three of them smiling broadly into the camera and laughing.
Not appropriate. I don't care if everything they said is technically true or if the coverage was more somber at the beginning of the segment. Laughing and joking while covering this life-or-death topic is offensive and an example of sanewashing.
Jeremy Peters is one of the original normalizers and sanewashers. I remember him during trump's first term laughing at fellow journalists who wanted more fact checking and imitating them by saying ,"but he's LYYYYING!" in a high pitched voice. He gave himself away years ago and I wish MSNBC would not have him on.
As far as this topic (the SS cuts) goes, I will watch Rachel tonight to get the real story without the shrieking laughter.

(71,408 posts)The hosts and guests yucking it up, it's all so funny and amusing, when they are discussing
the biggest disaster in US history. And the lives of so many Americans are at severe risk.

(5,071 posts)Since I've been married, I've used my maiden name as my middle name. I got my ss card with my given middle name. When I tried to register online to get into my account, I was told I don't exist as a ss recipient. SS uses driver's licenses as photo ID, and mine has my maiden name as my middle name, so I truly don't exist as, say, Mary Jones Smith, instead of Mary Ann Smith.
Fortunately, I'm due to get a new picture taken for my license, so I've taken my birth certificate out of the safe deposit box and plan to take it with me when I get my new license so I can get my given middle name put on my driver's license. I hope this will solve my problem.
Completely self-inflicted. I remember when my grandmother died and there were similar problems with life insurance. As a teenager, she had changed her name (not formally) from Jane Ellen to Ella Jean. When will we learn.
