this piece from AlterNet is a good synopsis. I was yelling at Schumer on the tv screen.
"'Delusional' Schumer spirals in 'devastating' new interview as leadership crisis deepens"
Opinion - Written by David Badash, March 19, 2025
Trying to defend what is being seen as a lack of strategy, an inability to grasp the gravity of this moment in American history, and a refusal to fight the battle that is actually before him, Schumer made his argument to Hayes.
President Donald Trumps approval numbers have started to go down, from 51 to 47. If we keep at it and keep at it and keep at it, his numbers will be much lower. He will not only be less popular, but less effective, Schumer insisted.
For some on social media, that appeared to be the inflection pointthe moment that Schumer exposed that he is using the old playbook that the Trump administration, MAGA, The Heritage Foundation, and Project 2025 burned long ago.

(7,654 posts)He's simply not equipped for guerilla warfare or the new paradigm. A lot of our leaders aren't.
Pelosi would probably have adapted well enough.
I'm not engaging in moderate progressive circular firing squad stuff. Both sides need the other bc neither have enough bodies to win a primary or a general election.
This isn't about that. It's about adapting to a new paradigm and being willing to risk things folks haven't been willing to risk before like the debt ceiling or shutdowns or temporary bad media.

His lack of objectivity is putting us all at risk. We don't have time to coddle anyone's feelings.
I agree - a paradigm shift is needed. And replacing Schumer with a leader matched for the moment can start that shift. The message needs to be - there is a new sheriff in town.

(18,714 posts)He's shining a glaring light on the fact that he is woefully out of touch with the seriousness of the moment. He's showing himself to be unwilling to appreciate just how outraged the American people are at this moment and, worse still, his unwillingness to self reflect and see that he isn't capable of wartime leadership.

From a 2016 article:
https://maddogdemocrat.blogspot.com/2016/02/bernie-sanders-war-consigliere.html
Michael has cooly assessed the forces arrayed against him and concluded accommodation, amelioration, reaching agreements with those whom the Corleones will naturally come into conflict is not realistic. In the more tranquil past, the aims and interests of the Corleone family could be negotiated, but those prudent compromises of the past will no longer serve.
--Abraham Lincoln
There is a moment in "The Godfather" when Michael Corleone assigns various members of his organization specific tasks but he dismisses his loyal adviser, Tom Hagen.
Tom turns to him and asks what he has done wrong. "Michael, why am I out?"
"You have been a good consigliere, Tom," Michael says, "But you are not a war consigliere. Right now, I need a war consigliere."

(2,207 posts)He acts as if it is still 1995 instead of 2025. The best of us can become out of touch.
It's time to replace him with Democrats who can inspire the country, people like AOC and Jasmine Crockett.
I wonder, do we have anyone like Winston Churchill in WW2 or Volodymyr Zelenskyy now?

(5,646 posts)Murphy explains that we are at crunch time - we have likely no more than six months to save our Democracy. I think the Congress members need to explain to people the crisis of the moment.
Sheldon Whitehouse and Jamie Raskin are good explainers. John Larson is an out front voice right now. Melanie Stansbury and Maxwell Frost are new members with a good voice. And there are many others who know their stuff - Eliz. Warren, Eric Swallwell, Cory Booker.
Bernie's Fighting Oligarchy tour is the right message and he is doing the work.
Everyone needs to bring their A game right now.
