With Orders, Investigations and Innuendo, Trump and G.O.P. Aim to Cripple the Left

The president and his allies in Congress are targeting the financial, digital and legal machinery that powers the Democratic Party and much of the progressive political world.

Executive actions intended to cripple top Democratic law firms. Investigations of Democratic fund-raising and organizing platforms. Ominous suggestions that nonprofits aligned with Democrats or critical of President Trump should have their tax exemptions revoked.

Mr. Trump and his allies are aggressively attacking the players and machinery that power the left, taking a series of highly partisan official actions that, if successful, will threaten to hobble Democrats’ ability to compete in elections for years to come.

So far, the attacks have been diffuse and sometimes indiscriminate or inaccurate. But inside the administration, there are moves to coordinate and expand the assault.

can expect to be targeted.

Considering how successful they were with ACORN a few years ago, and with unions, it's really only surprising that they're just now getting around to going after this source of Democratic funding.

8. "If there will be no more elections, why are they bothering?"

A) The cruelty is the point. They want to destroy their enemies, financially, professionally, socially, psychologically.

B) There will be elections. Russia has elections. North Korea has elections. Trump is trying to get control of the Federal Elections Commission. There will be elections. I can even predict the winner already.

6. The DNC declined to comment? How about, "None of these accusations have merit"?

And what the fuck is NY Times' reference to "since-discredited research on behalf of Hillary Clinton’s 2016 campaign and the D.N.C. into his team’s dealings with Russia." ??? Everything Hillary said turned out to be true! And I have yet to see anything that actually disproves any of the major statements in the Steele Dossier...including the stuff about the pee pee tape. Plus, that research was started by Trump's 2016 Republican primary opponents, not Hillary.

11. Good thing ActBlue and CREW can fight this. Criminalizing political and legal organizations. Next up, non-profits.

Next up, the funders of these orgs. Testing what orgs the courts will let him delegitimize, and working the courts to delegitimize them as well.

Sure, they can try. And so can we.

This is all still worth fighting for. They can't stop them ALL. We still have to TRY.

Bottom line: whoever cares the most will win.

After ACT BLUE so I guess we have to give directly to candidates. And if they start going after PACS then it'll mean a lot less money since once we reach the limit to the candidate we won't have the PAC to give to. We'll be fighting in court to prove it's illegal while the election continues without the money behind it.
