Canadians to Maine: No, thanks!

Canadian tourists make up about 30-40% of the revenue for many businesses in Old Orchard Beach, Maine. This year, many are choosing to skip their regular getaway, given President Trump’s antagonistic rhetoric towards Canada. The owner of the Point of View Inn tells CNN’s Randi Kaye he’s had so many cancellations that his business may not survive.

The Jersey shore(especially Wildwood) was a big vacation spot for Canadians & Germans.
I've posted this a lot but a casual acquaintance of mine(who's full out MAGA) makes almost all his yearly income from several summer rental properties. I heard him crying in his beer that all his reservations save one(& that one's American) have cancelled & even had their credit cards cancel their deposits so he can't get his mitts on that.
He was one obnoxious asshole on election day now he's considering bankruptcy.

Translated, it means they were professional, assertive and knowledgeable. And they won. Trump is such a sore loser.

I do feel bad for the many small businesses in tourism hurt by that greedy and deranged man.

that he had dealt with.
I guess he has forgotten about his “fell in love” comment about a Korean guy who brags that he can hit US cities with nukes, or the people who put “Death to America” on their political ads.
But Putin was polite and cordial when he made a fool of Trump in the Ukrainian negotiations.

A friend of mine used to be Canada’s ambassador to the USA, and we used to hang with him at the Canadian Embassy in Washington, and later at the Canadian Embassy in Paris when he was ambassador to France. He has a place in the Laurentians to which he has been inviting us for 25 years, and we never get around to it.

I don’t want this to become another Adrian Cronauer situation. Adrian passed before we could ever accept his invitation to visit him in southwest Virginia, and that haunts me to this day. He was one of the most intriguing people I ever met, and “Good Morning Vietnam” had nothing to do with it.

But the fact remains that I still work for a living. I only have limited vacation time, and can’t just spend all of my time traveling the world seeing all the people and places I want to see. Plenty of people tell me that’s exactly what I should be doing at my age. I suppose some day, I’ll listen to them.

It is my country, too, and our NYC daughter and family are planning to stay with us for some of the time. So are my two siblings, and possibly some members of Congress who are friends.

I refuse to be intimidated by a bunch of wannabe Yertle the Turtle control freaks. Plus, we have friends among the locals after 40 years of going there. Wellfleet, Truro, Provincetown—these are not mere tourist destinations for us. They are part of our lives by now. We do not plan to stay away just because Trump, Noem, Bondi and Rubio said “Boo!”

I'm surprised that any visitors from foreign countries decide to vacation here.

For example, would you choose to visit Russia? North Korea? Iran? Same thing with foreigners choosing whether to visit the U.S.
