Regarding NBC's recent piece on AOC and Dem's changing perspectives on her...

Yesterday 34,000 people showed up in Denver for Bernie and AOC

( cue Buffalo Springfield's "For What It's Worth" )

From Dushan's FB post a few days ago...

NBC is out with a story that many Democrats in the House are starting to view Alex Ocasio-Cortez in a different light recently as a leader of the party: “As Democrats scramble to find an authentic and effective messenger for the second Trump admin, there is a growing desire to elevate AOC within the party in some way, according to interviews with a dozen Democratic lawmakers, aides and strategists — especially after last week’s government spending showdown left the base enraged.

… The article also highlighted AOC’s tour with Bernie Sanders, which started tonight in swing districts and on college campuses in AZ, NV and CO that are expected to draw massive crowds. Sanders’ advisor Faiz Shakir: “She would walk into any event in America and draw a significant crowd. Whether they like her or not it doesn’t even matter. There are people interested in what she has to say.”

… From the article:

“Some of her Democratic colleagues once viewed AOC as an attention seeker who was more interested in social media stardom than substantive policy. Others believed she fell into the job only accidentally after her upset primary win at age 28 and were skeptical she would be around for long. But now Democrats across the ideological spectrum are starting to recognize that AOC can grab the spotlight in a way that few others in the party can.”

Rep. Jamie Raskin:
“She’s got boundless promise as the party leader in our country. But the question is who will have the language to express to America where we need to go. That’s a tall order for anybody, but I would say she’s definitely a contender. I don’t know that anybody else seems to be a more obvious young candidate for that position.”

AOC recently made a presentation to her colleagues in the House on how to use social media to reach voters. She showed them a video she made which just got over 2 million views, causing one Dem Rep in attendance to remark: “Two million people? If you added all of mine up together and multiplied them by 10, I wouldn’t get to 2 million.”

She's doing some things a leader must do, trying to educate her colleagues to get them caught up with modern tools she's learned to leverage effectively, and help convey her vision of the current perceptions voters have.

that I like the most about AOC is that she has the ability to talk on a wide range of topics in great detail. That includes Medicare for All, something that I suspect everyone who attends her rallies knows she serves as a strong advocate for. I think her support is expanding because people who hadn't really listened to her closely before -- accepting the media's distorted image of her -- now hear her words.

The values that guided me decades ago are the same values guiding me today. Alexandria speaks to those same values in a down-to-earth way. She is so refreshing, so courageous. I love that she is breaking through the Washington BS and is well on her way to an important leadership role.

A person can be appointed to a leadership position, but be incapable of actually leading. Sometimes that happens when a person is in that appointed position for a long time, having significant seniority ...... but unable to change to master changing circumstances. And still others may not "officially" be in a leadership position, but yet be recognized as leading the way by a very large number of people.

AOC's ability to communicate values in a language that people understand is in stark contrast to say the convicted sex offender/ felon now in the White House. He has given what actually is the same speech since he entered the republican primary in 2015. "I'm a genius. I'm a victim. Non-white people are dangerous. I hate women."

Malcolm X often said that if you place a cool, clear glass of water next to a glassd of sludge, thirsty people will make the correct choice. And that is what we are seeing today.

was not AG of California, was not DA for San Francisco for 7 years, was not Vice President, etc., then your statement is correct. But shade is exactly what you're throwing, I believe.

AOC is very impressive, but no need to diss the very competent and effective former Vice President. Yes, Harris/Walz lost the election.
But before there's any talk of AOC for 2028, I'd sure like to see more experience and less sanctification. She is doing a great job out on the hustings with Bernie and I believe her passion about income inequality, health care for all, etc. I just hope she doesn't start echoing Bernie's urging on of candidates who want to run as Independents.

Not a secret.

One only needs to read her own words:
2019
Put simply, she said that her endorsement is intended to help build a movement, which would shape not just whether Democrats beat President Donald Trump in 2020, but how. And, she said, it was a recognition that Sanders is the only candidate in the field who has been fighting consistently for working people for decades, making him the ideal leader of multiracial, working-class movement.

By endorsing Sanders in order to help build his movement, Ocasio-Cortez is taking seriously the campaign’s motto, “Not me, us.”

“For me, it wasn’t even about helping the senator. It was a moment of clarity for me personally in saying, What role do I want to play?” Ocasio-Cortez told NBC. “And I want to be a part of a mass movement.”

from the crowd in Denver, were the Denver Police. During the much smaller gathering during the *Peaceful Black Lives Matter* demonstration, where the MAGA Denver cops went crazy on the demonstrators......The Denver City Council IS STILL PAYING OUT MILLIONS on the claims for people injured by the seemingly barbaric actions by the DPD, many years after the fact........

BTW: I must commend the Colorado State Patrolmen that were present at the Black Lives Matter demonstration. They were actually trying to protect the Demonstrators from the Denver Police.........BRAVO CSP. As a group, the CSP are considerably much higher trained and educated Law Enforcement Officers, and much more polite and dignified.........

Without massive participation from grassroots activists, we’re going to be in deep yogurt.
