South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley appointed Rep. Tim Scott to the U.S. Senate today Dec. 17, 2012, to replace Senator Jim DeMint who recently announced that he is leaving the Senate to run the right wing think tank, The Heritage Foundation.
Rep. Scott is a strong supporter of guns and the NRA; he recently co-sponsored legislation in the House of Representatives that would prevent law enforcement from tracking purchases of multiple rifles and guns.
On Scott’s congressional website, he says that the right to own guns is a “cornerstone of our democracy.” He continues: “the federal government should never interfere with this right.”
Rep. Scott has also proposed legislation that would endanger children in order to attack American workers; he proposed a bill to cut off food stamps for entire families if one member went on strike. Scott’s legislation made no exception for children or other dependents.
