You had to know this was coming.

https://baptistnews.com/article/trumps-faith-adviser-selling-seven-easter-blessings-for-1000-gift/

President Donald Trump’s chief faith adviser is selling seven “supernatural blessings” for Easter season gifts of $1,000 or more.

On her website and social media, televangelist Paula White has a special offer for what she calls the “Passover season” when “your obedience to align yourself with the desires of God” can “release seven specific supernatural blessings for your body, your family, your finances and your future.”

White leads the White House Faith Office and recently assembled a group of 17 evangelical pastors to pray over Trump in the Oval Office.

She bases her promise of seven blessings (for the gift of $1,000) on Exodus 23, which ironically begins with these words: “You shall not spread a false report. You shall not join hands with the wicked to act as a malicious witness. You shall not follow a majority in wrongdoing; when you bear witness in a lawsuit, you shall not side with the majority so as to pervert justice.”

want you to even read the Bible. It is a very authoritarian religion. Many of those conservative Christian churches only quote the Old Testament parts.

“But wait! There’s more! (for $1,000)” he says.

I don’t know what Baptist News Global is in the great scheme of things, but Mr. Wingfield really sees her for the con and grift she's selling ( “seven supernatural blessings” — for $1,000) and doesn’t spare the actual quotes from the actual Bible.

And then states this in verse 9: “You shall not oppress a resident alien; you know the heart of an alien, for you were aliens in the land of Egypt.”
White and her team of spiritual advisers have endorsed and blessed Trump as he lies and seeks to have judges impeached if they cross him, and as he rounds up legal immigrants for deportation and imprisonment.
(Snip)
Meanwhile, the Trump administration is seeking to cut benefits for the poorest Americans…

I think this is my favorite part:

But wait, there’s more!
With your gift of $1,000 or more, White will send you a 10-inch-high Waterford cross, plus some devotionals and an “olive wood communion set from the Holy Land.”
That special set “contains unleavened bread and grape juice from the Holy Land, two beautiful olive wood communion cups” and a booklet, her advertisement says. With these items in hand, “you can join Paula in taking communion…”

Waterford crystal cross, olive-wood cups, and Holy Land Passover Matzoh. And grape juice. What —Paula couldn’t even spring for some Manischevitz wine?

who are associated with the moderate to liberal wing of the various Baptist groups in the United States. It is a merger of the Associated Baptist Press and the Religious Herald, which was once the weekly news journal belonging to the Baptist General Association of Virginia.

Associated Baptist Press was an independent news agency that formed when conservatives took over the Southern Baptist Convention around 1989, and put fundamentalists in control of the trustees of Baptist Press, their news agency, and censored it. Wingfield is an editor for Baptist News Global which is the online publication resulting from the merger. It is in a partnership with the Baptist denominations and groups that either left the Southern Baptist Convention when conservatives took over, or who are of the same doctrinal and theological perspective. Because these groups actually are true to their Baptist roots, the vast majority of the churches would find themselves quite sympathetic to any anti-Trump political perspective, and are open in their opposition to the intrusion and invasion of extremist right wing Trumpism into Evangelical churches, or any other Christian group.

I've posted numerous articles and op-eds from BNG at DU, and they are usually pretty well read.

Politically, among the most notable Baptists in American politics who belong to the denominations that are represented by this particular perspective would be former President Jimmy Carter, and former Vice President Al Gore. Former President Bill Clinton once belonged to a Baptist church affiliated with the largest of the groups that separated from the SBC but I think he's full blown Methodist now.

39. Back in the day, it was called "Simony" in Christian Religions.
Thu Mar 27, 2025, 04:35 PM
Mar 27

Attributed to Simon Magus in the book of Acts. It's the selling of spiritual blessings or forgiveness initiated by the person in spiritual power instead of charity or a gift freely given by someone who felt the need to balance a sin. Also, someone who buys the right to sell holy or spiritual relics from Christian Churches for their own profit to sell blessings or forgiveness is guilty of Simony.

Typically punished on earth by excommunication, (unless, of course it was a higher level church politician - in those cases, they were typically barred from being able to rise to a higher office, if they gave the Bishop or Cardinal a cut to be forgiven in ecclesiastical court.)

At the time Simony was a crime (around 300 CE to around the Enlightenment) it was understood someone committing Simony was a serious form of Blaspheming God, Christ, or the Saints - and both you and the desperate noob you sold to was going to the eighth circle of Hell - near the Murderers and Traitors - unless someone really high up was able to intercede for you.

For Paula White and her Prosperity Gospel scammers, I think that's about right ..

43. 'Selling miracles on the side': Rachel Maddow calls out WH official's 'YouTube evangelism'
Thu Mar 27, 2025, 06:38 PM
Mar 27

This lady is a fraud and a scam artist

https://www.rawstory.com/rachel-maddow-2671549474

MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow called attention to the head of President Donald Trump’s White House Faith Office, whom she flagged for continuing to peddle religious articles and other “supernatural blessings.”

“Are you feeling the itch to send this U.S. government employee, the head of the White House Faith Office, $1,000 or more? If so, congratulations, because that is how you get all this stuff, including the ‘special year of blessing’ and ‘a long life’ and ‘taking your sickness away’ for the low, low price of $1,000,” Maddow said sarcastically.

The primetime host opened her show Wednesday by highlighting the YouTube presence of Trump’s longtime spiritual adviser Pastor Paula White-Cain, who besides leading the White House Faith Office as senior adviser is still hawking religious offerings online......

Maddow concluded in a sarcastic tone that it was “nice to know that at least someone in the White House” was working on issues like “long life” and “take sickness away,” even “if they are charging for them.”

She then folded the MAGA pastor's miracle-selling ways to the Trump administration’s cut to USAID’s funding of global vaccinations.

“You may be able to buy those things by sending $1,000 to the head of the White House Faith Office, but know when you're doing so that the U.S. government itself will no longer be working toward those aims in the material world,” Maddow concluded.
