(5,553 posts)...I had a meeting with the costume designer at SIR Studios in Hollywood.
The director wanted the actors playing The Doors to actually play their instruments during the music performance scenes, so they were rehearsing the songs to that end.
When I arrived at SIR, Val was standing in the hall outside the studio where the other actors were running through the tunes.
He was in character as Jim Morrison, and, as a "method actor," once he became Jim, he stayed in character, until all the scenes were shot, completed, and on film.
So when I met him at SIR, I met Jim Morrison, not Val Kilmer. He introduced himself to me as "Jim."
It was kinda weird.
Oh, and, the actors playing their instruments in the film did not work out, they were not good enough to pull it off.

(14,307 posts)I remember an interview with Val where he said it took a while to leave the character after the film was done. He had absorbed so much of Jim he couldn't just switch it off. That's how he made it so real--he became him.

(5,553 posts)...I am not surprised he said that in the interview.
Jim Morrison was an intense person, I guess you could say.
So I can believe that the transformation back to himself/Val may have taken some effort after his prolonged time as "Jim."

(12,810 posts)I loved him, he was such a good actor. Everything he did he did with such passion. Even his comedy performances, like Kiss, Kiss , Bang ,Bang or Top Secret and The Saint. He was the best Jim Morrison I could imagine.
