Jimmy Carter was always at the top of the list. Now I live in very red East TN and at 75 cannot really relocate. So I am building a list of Tennesseans. Dolly of course, Al Gore, Gloria Johnson and Trae Crowder. Today, he shared this clip to prove there have always been progressive "country boys"

(17,728 posts)She's in Nashville and writes opinion pieces for the NY Times that let everyone know she is a dyed-in-the-wool liberal. Her specialty is nature and the environment but she has made no bones about what side of the fence she's on politically. She's also written some amazing books. I follow her on Facebook where she gifts her articles to her followers so they don't need a subscription. Her writing is amazing and passionate.
I was not working on a list for TN yet, but will check her out. I also think of Jon Meacham.
Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
