Think Gerald Ford. Never elected as president or vice-president:
Next election won by GOP.
VP resigns, Trump appointed as VP.
Pres resigns, Trump becomes pres again.
Sounds stupid, but it's possible.

I really fear this scenario, even though he'll be 82.
