Is the bond market OK? I have bonds, not stocks, and I don't know much about the bond market. (Original Post) CTyankee Apr 2025 OP

If you don't know much about bonds, stick with CDs and build a ladder of different maturities. surfered Apr 2025 #3

I am heavier into bonds that equities, and I lost 1% of my portfolio yesterday. Will probably be another 1% today. If Trump gets his wish and the fed lowers interest rates, then bondholders will also do better.

I am not a big fan of bond funds, and my portfolio manager has invested directly into bonds. You might get the loss against inflation if you hold to maturity, but you won't lose cash directly (that is unless the issuer declares bankruptcy). This crazy f_cker might force all US Treasury bondholders to take a haircut though - I wouldn't put it past him.

That is what my FIL has done instead of equities, and I think he is happy with it.
