Gun Show Planned Just Miles From Connecticut Massacre Site
TPM
12/18/12
Big Al's Silver Bullet Productions, Inc. has a "Big Al's Gun and Premier Knife Show" scheduled for Jan. 5-6 in Danbury, Conn., 13 miles from Newtown, the site of last week's mass shooting that left 28 people, including 20 first graders, dead.
According to the company's website, children under 10 will be admitted free if accompanied by adults.
The New York Times put in a call to the company's office on Tuesday:
A man who answered the phone number listed on the Big Als site said yes when asked Tuesday morning if the show was still on. When asked further questions, he replied, I really have no comments, buddy. When asked his name, he said, Have a good day and hung up.

(15,064 posts)why they would let this go on? Explain that they are taking blood money to exploit the very tools that killed those precious children.

(37,549 posts)They were pretty responsive. Within minutes of my call I was directed to the HR Director, Jamie Santa Croce, and she was very polite and confirmed a cancellation.

(37,549 posts)as to Mr. LaPierre's thoughts on the CT shooting. We should tweet, Facebook, etc....
The trick is to be stunningly polite, and keep them on the line.
If a couple hundred thousand people do that, it should keep these fuckers quite busy.

(2 posts)These people had nothing to do with the shooting, I really can't stand the discrimination against all gun owners as if we are all to blame for one crazy person's actions. If a black guy robs a bank, do we say all black people must be banned? If a gay man rapes a young boy, do we say all gays are horrible? I know there are a select few out there that would agree to that, but for the most part everyone can see the absurdity of that logic. So why is the reverse not true? The evil was the person who thought it was a good idea to go on a shooting spree, not the guns. Guns can be used for good or for evil, they are nothing but a tool. It's the people behind them that are good or evil. Cops are treated as heroes and yet they wield guns, and a cop could just as easily decide to turn and use his gun for wrong, but who would be at fault? Would you take away all cops weapons? You need to hear about all of the occasions when a citizen had a gun and stopped a crime from happening, but those aren't reported nearly as much as something devastating. If one of those teacher's would have had a gun, maybe this could have all been prevented, but you will never be able to take away all the tools out there to prevent a crazy, evil person from doing harm to others in one form or another. It's just impossible and a sad truth.
But the average gun owner is not a danger to society, I went with my dad to gun shows when I was a kid and had fun. We'd buy a gun and come home and go target shooting or hunting. No evil was ever involved, I don't understand why people can't see that. Not to mention how many lives hunters save from car accidents involving deer, either.

(45,851 posts)The fact you can't understand why a gun show at this time might be painful for some members of the Newtown community is rather interesting.

(66,434 posts)Anyway, have you ever stopped to consider why countries that ban these weapons have far fewer gun-related deaths than we do? Is it because the guns are illegal? That's rich. I can hear it now from two thieves in England or someplace:
"Oy! Nigel! You cawn't use 'at gun! It's illegal!"
No. It's because they're unavailable to the general public. One may use the drug-dealer argument, I suppose. but then one would have to explain how a person can swallow fifty Bushmasters, and then just saunter past customs. Or be able to flush 20 rifles down the toilet when the cops show up at the door.
