The smoke was everywhere on the Networks News shows this morning.

Most of it coming from where the sycophants of Trump were trying to stomp out the fire that Dear Leader started.

They sent out the whole team. Usually they will have one person make the rounds on all the networks, but I guess today was different?

Perhaps they were looking at the futures on the stock market? It was reported that Japan had to shut its market down for an emergency because it had gone beyond its max? Wall Street is probably looking for something similar to happen tomorrow?

The Republican majority is going to need to make a decision quickly. How much longer are they willing to go before they follow the Constitution? Which states that the Congress has the power to levy taxes and impose tariffs, they had given the President that power to impose tariffs for national security purposes. They will need to take that power back.

How much pain will they need to see to get off the dime?

I think it would be satisfying to see them go down the sinkhole with him.

Forbes is reporting that Don Bacon of Nebraska (who is in a district where he needs to worry about a Dem challenger) is sponsoring legislation that he's going to introduce tomorrow. Here's the headline and a bit of the story:

House Republican Will Introduce Bill Challenging Trump’s Tariffs—As Speaker Johnson Reportedly Urges Tariff Support

Rep. Don Bacon, R-Neb., is planning to introduce legislation Monday that would restrict President Donald Trump's tariffs, as GOP opposition grows against the president's signature economic policy—though House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., is reportedly so far telling lawmakers to back the president.

snip

Bacon says he is putting the legislation in as a "placeholder" for when the economy continues to unravel and gets to the point where they can pass it.

The Forbes article has a paragraph telling that they don't need that many to get this through.

snip
With seven Republicans already backing the legislation potentially clawing back Trump’s tariffs, only a few more GOP senators would be needed to give the bill the 60 votes it needs to pass.
snip

Posted elsewhere on DU is a thread about the Senate bill to accomplish this.

what to make a deal. His followers are now repeating that on all the web sites singing his praises on
making it happen so fast. One listed like 10 companies that are building new plants here because of the tariffs.
Like, they just got up Wednesday and said, hey let's build a billion dollar plant in SC, I know just the spot. These people
are really gone.

We’ve already had multiple days of HUGE losses. Another big drop Monday would mean we are closing in on 15% or more drop from the high of this year.

One, and even two day drops can just be noise. Really loud noise, but noise.

Even in 1929, the initial crash of October had a recovery. We learn of the Depression famously starting at those first to days dropping 25% or so, so Black Monday and Tuesday are what are remembered. That's only sort of true though. Things sort of stabilized within a couple of weeks. The bottom really didn't fall out until the months that followed. From April of 1930 to July of '32 the market lost something like 90% of its value.

If big drops continue past the next week or two, then we really will worry.

For those cowards it is all about their political survival and they know they don’t win without the magat votes.

Mon Apr 7, 2025, 02:24 AM

does congress have the authority to give any of its constitutional assignments to another branch?

Of course, there are times that it's happened. Giving the President "emergency" powers to tariff goods or enter into armed conflict has done just that. The question though, is if that's a constitutional granting of power. If not, then those laws could be struck down.

Already doing. They have cashed in on this market to get their money safe and be ready to recover.

We are on our own. They do not now or have they ever cared about the rest of us.

Alabama authorities detained a German citizen as being a suspicious foreigner. It turned out the guy was a manager inspecting the immense Mercedes-Benz manufacturing facility in Alabama. A quick call from Stuttgart to Birmingham was placed, explaining why the head office was suddenly inclined to explore the advantages of moving the whole operation to another state. The visiting German manager was quickly set free, presumably never to be harassed again.
