Bessent: Laid-off federal workers can now go work in our factories

(Tariffs have opened new opportunities -- screwing in little screws....)

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the Trump administration is planning to boost U.S. manufacturing employment with policies meant to steer laid-off federal workers into factories.

In an interview with Tucker Carlson published Friday on the social platform X, the Treasury secretary said he believed the U.S. had enough workers to fill thousands of manufacturing jobs Trump hopes to
create through steep import taxes.

“On one side, the president is reordering trade,” Bessent said. “On the other side, we are shedding excess labor in the federal government, and bringing down federal borrowings.”

“That will give us the labor that we need for the new manufacturing,” Bessent continued, arguing artificial intelligence and automation would limit how many workers needed to fill new jobs.

Bessent said the combination of tariffs and federal layoffs would help shift U.S. economic power away from the government and back toward the private sector. The secretary claimed without evidence that the U.S. private sector was in recession under the Biden administration despite a historic level of private job creation under Trump’s latest predecessor.

but specialized knowledge in areas of law, environment, weather, tech, and other sciences. Some have been in the FBI, international diplomacy, Social Security and the IRS.

We just throw all that institutional expertise down the drain? So they can assemble cars, phones and refrigerators?

that qualifies them for better jobs. Not to mention, I doubt these factory jobs will pay enough.

These are doctors, scientists, nurses and park rangers. They have degrees and knowledge that are useful. THEY DESERVE BETTER THAN TO ROT IN SOME MENIAL JOB. In any case these factories don't exist and they won't have people working in them anyway. Fucking piece of shit.

May be ok for stockroom,, or manual order picking. What's needed in growing industries are TRADE SKILLS, supported by good basic education and a willingness to learn. All those new factories gonna need 'lectricans!
the
Seriously, this is nothing more than contempt for the people who made them rich! "1 minion, 1 mulligan, all the same, all after OUR money!"

What we need is the government workers back on station, pending a much !more sane and sober review . (like the one our better Generals ave been asking DOD for)

That's got to take the sting out of losing your job - your home, your healthcare, your future. One day you can have another job, at some undetermined time in the future, maybe. Unless the robots take them all.
