From what I've read, the mother homeschooled the shooter from a young age, and there are varying reports on whether or not she was herself a little "off", being into collecting guns and preparing for the collapse of civilization (Doomsday Prepper). People familiar with the family have also described Adam Lanza as having mental and personality disorders that apparently went untreated as far as anyone knows.
If he had attended public school as a teenager, is it possible the school psychologist/counselor would have been able to intervene in some way and get him help? Was being kept at home, isolated from society by his mother as he was, a factor in his killing spree? By all descriptions, he was incredibly smart, yet still living at home at 20 yr of age, and never even applied to enter college. I haven't even read of him holding a job so far.
Anyone want to chime in with their opinions?

(19,257 posts)The original news reports were that he was homeschooled by a somewhat nutty mom. But as we've all seen, the first reports were pretty rushed and spotty.
Guess that's what I get for not double-checking what I originally read before opening my mouth. Thanks!

(3,713 posts)...it seems to be sure way to guarantee that the next generation never gets any smarter than the parents.
Also, kids need to interact with others from different backgrounds to learn social skills.
This nation is becoming too Balkan-ized.
