I plead guilty to preaching the doom of Merrick Garland taking too long to act. He only acted when the J6 committee shamed him into action.
The people back then, and now, who were bashing me for attacking Garland are the ones who gave rise to Trump 2.0. Garland should have arrested Trump when he knew He had classified documents in his bedroom and shitter, but he waited 11 months for Trump to return them.
Today, I see that Trump is breaking the law, how is DOGE even legal? Trump is ignoring the justice system. Trump has been using Signal and personal phones for government communications since he was re-elected, violating the espionage Act and federal records preservation Act.
Democrats are in the minority I get it, so they need to doing town halls every chance they have because it is up to us the people to save our Democracy.
Get out and protest, push your Reps to act, donate or join Indivisible, donate to Democrats who are fighting, like AOC and Bernie, Murphy, Booker.
What are the Timid 10 doing? The Senators who gave Trump what he wanted, the CR. Non-doomers told me that passing the CR would protect Social Security, it is being gutted right now.
We needed to take a stand and fight and not pass the CR, but once again the non-doomers said to wait, just like they said to wait on Garland.
The best way forward now is town halls, is protesting, is calling our reps, is donating to people who are fighting.
I am a doomer because I report what is happening, the people who say the courts will save us are wrong, who say a hero will emerge to save us are wrong. We must save ourselves. We cant wait for the next election.

(13,501 posts)Until the spring of 2022. The DOJ started their investigation of the stop the steal prior to Garland being seated and got warrants for devices of the leaders but between lack of cooperation of those people coupled with lack of any sense of urgency by the courts.
We have been over this many times and I am tired of having the same arguments when facts are ignored. But to continue this narrative is misleading at best. Garland had some faults and some of his decisions certainly were questionable but facts are facts.

(2,361 posts)The facts are that garland is largely responsible for trump 2.0. Along with mcconnell for choosing not to convict after the second impeachment.

(4,948 posts)To think they would have let any prosecution to happen, ignores what happened in 2024 when they gave him a lifetime pass to do what he is doing now. As for Turtle, he put Gorsich and Barrett by ignoring 200 years of history. He is the villain you're looking for

(3,646 posts)"Wait 'til the midterms", "the courts will stop them", "common sense will preval", "the Republicans will find their patriotism" and all of the other wishful phrases are not guaranteed. The possibility of these things working also diminishes every day.
Trump and the GOP do not care about the law whatsoever. Only what might cost them politically. That too will diminish with time.
The only thing that they understand is force or the real threat of force, both politically
and otherwise. Until we can achieve both of those things they will continue to stomp all over our faces and the nation.
