Statement by the White House on Trump's tariff exemptions for electronics

White House deputy press secretary Kush Desai said in a statement that Trump “has made it clear America cannot rely on China to manufacture critical technologies such as semiconductors, chips, smartphones, and laptops.”

“At the direction of the President, these companies are hustling to onshore their manufacturing in the United States as soon as possible,” Desai said.

There’s enough gaslighting there to keep New York City bright as day for months.

Ignoring Lutnick’s robot fantasy, which would require building robot factories with all the details you listed, where do you think they are going to build these?

Almost certainly poorer southern “Right to work” states. BMW has done very well in South Carolina and others elsewhere. People will move there but, I’m sad to say, we have a very unhealthy workforce. They cry about how poor our education system is but they think the product of that is just going to flip a switch and be trainable? Set aside the opioids and other drugs.

Of course he didn't identify any tech company by name as "hustling to onshore their manufacturing in the United States" at the direction of the orange anus. Because there aren't any.

and coming to him to kiss the ring and make a deal like he wanted. Xi knows very well that the US can't ramp up and build plants to make the products China produces and everyone actually wants for years.

trump's bullshit about bring those jobs back to the US is not happening so cellphones, TVs, chips, computers and other goods everyone wants will be exempted from the outrageous tariffs.

Somebody pulled trump's coat and told him to back down and exempt the products people acutally want.

Look buddy, we got you elected and we make a butt ton of money of these things whether it’s directly or indirectly (freight)

Oh and China holds $768B in US debt.

Japan has $1T
EU nations $1.5B
Canada $350B

THEY hold the cards. That’s why he blinked and did the pause.

Great read.

Trump claimed that the tariffs were to bring back the good old days of American manufacturing circa 1946-1973. Yet the exclusions would apply to...computers, hard drives and computer processors and memory chips. These are the very items that the Biden administration was trying to bring back to to production in the USA--at least partially--as a matter of national security (which it indeed is).
